Great cross towards Fortune who was in a goal-scoring position but Agger does well to get the ball way from the Albion man and it's a corner to West Brom.

Fortune tries to beat Alonso and he earns his side a corner. Brunt takes but it's cleared.

Babel works space down the right. He plays it inside to Gerrard who finds Kuyt but Kiely is equal to his effort.

Miss by Babel and he should have scored. He gets the ball in space 12 yards out one-on-one with Kiely but he curls it wide when looking to find the far corner.

Shot by Gerrard. It's charged down by Greening and Brunt keeps the ball in and brings the ball forward again for the hosts.

West Brom still continue to push for a goal to get themselves back in this game, but it just doesn't look like being their day.

It's been a really good few minutes for Albion, but maybe the fact that they haven't managed to find a goal with these chances is an indication why they are surely going to be relegated in ten minutes.

Another half chance for Albion. Fortune's effort at the far post is blocked and Carragher and Arbeloa square up and push each other. The referee wants a word but takes no action.

Double chance again for West Brom. Moore hits the post with Reina beaten all ends up and then Fortune heads over from 4 yards completely unmarked.

Good chance for Fortune. He gets the ball inside the area but Carragher slides in to deflect the ball over the bar as Fortune shoots. It's a corner to West Brom.

Koren tries his luck from distance. It's low across the skiddy surface but it's saved comfortably by Reina.

Cross from Babel goes all the way across the penalty area and drifts away to the far side of the field.

It's looking as though there is no way back here for West Brom, but the fans are really getting behind the team trying to drive them forward for one last effort.

Babel finds space on the right and gets a cross in but Koren heads clear.

Good play between Lucas and Gerrard but decent interception for West Brom by Olsson to break up the attack.

Fortune gets away down the left but Martin Atkinson spots a foul and brings the play back for a West Brom free-kick instead of playing the advantage.

Chance for Lucas. He runs through the West Brom defence into the area. He toe pokes at goal from 10 yards but it's a decent save by Kiely to turn it wide at his near post.

Chance for Liverpool to break forward with a man over. Kuyt plays it to Gerrard and on to Torres but Donk does well to win the ball back for West Brom.

Penalty claim for West Brom and it's a great chance to score. Menseguez should shoot but he squares it to Fortune who comes together with Carragher and he looks to be fouled by the Liverpool man as he is about to tap home into an empty net.

Brunt crosses well from the left looking for Menseguez but Liverpool again manage to clear.

Exchange of passes between Arbeloa and Kuyt. Kuyt shoots from the edge of the area but it's a good block from Donk.

Half chance for Torres. It's a tight angle but he hits the target and Kiely has to be down wel to his left to save.

Effort from distance from Alonso but it;s always rising and it won't trouble the West Brom goal.

Effort at the other end for Torres. He tries to bend it into Kiely's far corner but he can't beat the veteran keeper.

Menseguez breaks forward for West Brom. He plays a one-two before getting into the box but Reina saves his effort.

West Brom break quickly. Brunt plays a dangerous ball into the penatly area across the face of the 6-yard box looking for Fortune, but the danger is just dealt with by Liverpool.

It's been a relaxed start for Liverpool, keeping the ball well and West Brom have not been able to get any tempo about the game in these opening stages.

Liverpool will be hoping to close out the second half and guarantee their runner-up spot ahead of Chelsea and Benitez will no doubt be happy with the way his side has soaked up the best of West Brom's pressure and still lead at the break.

Arbeloa looks to attack for Liverpool but he plays a poor ball insdie to Mascherano and he goes down injured looking to receive the ball under pressure and the ball is played out for him to receive treatment.

Kuyt crosses looking for Torres. It's not dealt with well by Olsson and Gerrard has the chance to shoot but it's a few yards wide from 25 yards.

It's gone significantly quieter at the Hawthorns since Gerrard's strike and the Baggies could now be just an hour from relegation as the rain starts coming down.

Chance for Fortune who cuts inside of Carragher but takes too long to shoot and Agger comes across to block.

The free kick finds Torres at the far post after a tussle in the area. Torres tries to pull it back across goal but can't find anyone and Insua tries his luck from the edge of the area as the ball breaks but it's cleared again.

Foul on Kuyt by Greening and it's a foul on the right hand side level with the edge of the penalty area.

Menseguez drives forward into the Liverpool half. The ball is worked to Brunt, but he loses possession as he cuts inside looking for space.

Half chance for Brunt to shoot, but he opts to square the ball across goal and the ball is cleared.

Foul by Agger on Menseguez out wide and it will give Brunt another chance to put a ball into the Liverpool box, but it's overhit and the ball is out for a goal kick at the far post.

Shot by Benayoun from the edge of the penalty area but it's blocked by Zuiverloon.

Fortune plays the ball into the area. Insua doesn't appear to have his bearings right and he heads behind for a corner.

Gerrard goes down looking for a free-kick on the edge of the area. The referee waves play on but Gerrard stays down.

First bit of possession for Liverpool as they look to settle in to a match they've struggled to get into.

Torres turns at drives at the West Brom defence. Donk brings him down and it's a free-kick to Liverpool in a dangerous position 25 yards from goal. Gerrard takes but it's flicked away by Martis for a corner.

Greening gets away from Mascherano. He crosses but it's away by Carragher and Liverpool are doing well to stay on level terms in this opening 7 minutes.

Brunt drives forward and feeds Greening. The ball is cut out but it's gone behind for a corner to the Baggies.

It's been a positive start from the home side, who have had the better of the opening exchanges.

Ball forward towards Greening on the left but he's run offside and it's a free-kick to Liverpool.

Chance for West Brom and it's a great save from Reina to deny Greening from 5 yards. The ball finds him at the far post. He volleys on target but Reina blocks and Liverpool survive.

Ball into the box by Gerrard. The ball finds its way to Kuyt who crosses for Torres but Martis clears.

Kiely's long kick is headed on by Brunt looking for Fortune, but he can't quite get on the end of it and Liverpool clear.
