Match Preview
Liverpool host Aston Villa, with both sides looking to improve on indifferent starts to the season.
The Reds followed an abysmal opening weekend performance at Tottenham Hotspur with a 4-0 dispatch of Stoke City on Wednesday.
But Rafael Benitez's side still have plenty of improvement in them to catch up with the likes of Tottenham and Chelsea who are the early pace-setters.
Liverpool have a host of injury problems, particularly in a backline which was weakened by the departure of Sami Hyypia this summer.
Daniel Agger has been stricken again with a back problem, with his return date being delayed every week. Benitez will be hoping to call upon the Dane as fellow centre-half Martin Skrtel has a cracked jaw.
Skrtel suffered the injury in a clash of heads with Jamie Carragher in the Tottenham game, though the local defender played despite a deep gash on his forehead in the same incident.
Fernando Torres also suffered a heavy blow in the Stoke match, leaving him bloodied and with a black eye. The Spain international is expected to be okay to lead the Reds line.
Fabio Aurelio (knee) and new signing Alberto Aquilani (ankle) are expected to be out in the medium term.
Villa got their campaign underway with a surprise 2-0 loss to Wigan Athletic on home soil.
Martin O'Neill will be hoping the loss of influential Gareth Barry and Martin Laursen does not have a long knock-on effect.
O'Neill is likely to be without the services of man-mountain Wilfred Bouma. The left-sided defender could be out with an ankle niggle for three more weeks.
Stewart Downing could be out until Christmas, though Luke Young could recover from a thigh muscle strain to make the trip to Merseyside.

Match Report
A night of missed opportunities at Anfield left the home side without a point after a hard-fought clash with Aston Villa.
The home side began brightly, Fernando Torres immediately forcing a top-class save from Brad Friedel, with neither Steven Gerrard or Yossi Benayoun able to convert the rebound in a goalmouth scramble.
The opening five minutes saw continued Liverpool pressure, with Rafa Benitez glued to his touchline as the Reds powered forwards, with an energetic Benayoun finding plenty of space cutting in from the left wing.
Twenty minutes in Villa began to look more settled, becoming more comfortable with Liverpool's quick tempo and looking constantly threatening on the counter-attack.
But it was to be a set-piece which broke the deadlock, conceded cheaply 25 yards outside the Liverpool box.
James Milner's shot was weak, but an unfortunate deflection from Lucas on the end of the Liverpool wall saw the ball spin away from Pepe Reina.
The Liverpool keeper remained rooted to the floor in disbelief, as the ball found the left-hand side of his net to hand the visitors the lead.
Five minutes later, in the dying seconds of the half, Villa extended their lead courtesy of Curtis Davies, who rose well above Jamie Carragher to connect with a solid header to beat the hapless Reina.
In the 72nd minute, Fernando Torres pulled a goal back when he found some space in the centre of the penalty area and connected with a well-placed Benayoun cross, delicately volleying the ball into the roof of the Villa net.
However, Villa restored their two-goal advantage three minutes later when Gerrard fouled Nigel Reo-Coker as he powered into the Liverpool penalty area.
Ashley Young stepped up to the spot, and elegantly powered the ball into the right side of Reina's goal.
Liverpool's heads dropped and their attacking threat was all but extinguished as they slumped to their second defeat of the campaign following their opening weekend loss at Tottenham.
