Match Preview

No new worries for Imps In-form Lincoln have no new problems ahead of the visit of Shrewsbury. Adam Watts passed a fitness test on a hamstring problem to play the full 90 minutes against Hereford on Saturday and the defender should keep his place in the team after suffering no ill effects. Midfielder Clark Keltie is still nursing the thigh strain that has ruled him out since the FA Cup win against Nuneaton on November 1. Winger Mustapha Carayol continues to struggle with the hamstring problem that he sustained in the 4-3 win against Stockport last month. Lincoln are enjoying their best run of victories in three years after making it five in a row at Hereford. Beating Shrewsbury would make it City`s longest winning streak since they won the final seven matches of the 1991/92 season. Shrewsbury will be without James Collins due the striker`s international commitments. Collins has been a hit since his January switch from Aston Villa but his qualities have already attracted the attention of the Republic of Ireland, and the forward is part of their Under-21 squad to face Cyprus in Larnaca on Wednesday. With Collins missing, Town manager Graham Turner faces an anxious wait over his other two strikers. Matt Harrold received stud marks to the top of his thigh during Saturday`s 2-0 victory at Southend but should be okay, while late substitute Tom Bradshaw picked up a slight knock and will be assessed. Full-back Kelvin Lomax (ligament) remains out of contention for the time being at least but is not far off a return, as are Nathan Elder and Benjamin van den Broek (both knee) who have been missing long-term but are now back in training.

Match Report

Ainsworth stars in Shrews win Promotion-chasing Shrewsbury demolished Lincoln's five-match winning run with a 5-1 victory. Jon Taylor fired the Shrews in front in the sixth minute after a mistake by Lincoln winger Gavin McCallum. McCallum made up for his error a minute later when he supplied a perfect cross for Ashley Grimes to head home his ninth goal of the season. But the visitors restored their lead when Julian Kelly deflected a dangerous cross into his own net on 12 minutes, and Lionel Ainsworth quickly killed the game off with a 13-minute hat-trick. The first came on 22 minutes after a dreadful mistake by on-loan Arsenal full-back Gavin Hoyte, and was followed a minute later by a 12-yard strike after Lincoln keeper Trevor Carson failed to punch clear. Ainsworth finished off his treble with a wonderful solo effort on 35 minutes. Only another good save with his feet from Carson denied Ainsworth a fourth after the break, but Shrewsbury saw the win out easily.
