Match Preview

Elliot worry for Orient Elliot Omozusi is an injury doubt for Leyton Orient ahead of the clash with Exeter. The defender, a summer signing from Fulham, was forced out of Tuesday night's Carling Cup defeat by West Brom with a tight hamstring and will need a late fitness check. Midfielder Jimmy Smith filled in at right-back against the Baggies following Omozusi's withdrawal. Dean Cox, Matthew Spring and Alex Revell dropped out of the starting line-up as boss Russell Slade made changes for the cup clash and they should return. Left-back Charlie Daniels could be pushed into a midfield berth once again. Rookie striker Jake Argent, who signed his first professional contract this summer, is the only definite injury absentee with his long-term knee ligament problem. Exeter are in the grips of a defensive injury crisis. Skipper Matt Taylor is a doubt due to problems with back spasms, while Richard Duffy is serving a one-match ban following his sending off in last weekend's 2-2 draw with Bristol Rovers. Troy Archibald-Henville would normally be an obvious replacement for Taylor but the game comes too soon for him after seven months on the sidelines with a knee injury. Rob Edwards is expect to start in Taylor's place alongside Billy Jones at the heart of the defence, although should boss Paul Tisdale decide to revert to a 3-5-2 formation, Steve Tully could line-up as a right-sided centre-half with Jake Thomson at wing-back. "It's a real headache," Tisdale told the Express & Echo. "We will have to decide what the plan is going to be because it is not ideal having that many defenders out." "These things tend to come in little groups. We had a striker crisis this time last season and two years ago we had a central midfield crisis at the start of the season."

Match Report

Orient express earns win Leyton Orient coasted to their first League win of the season as they put Exeter to the sword with a comfortable 3-0 win. Exeter were fortunate to be only a goal down at the break after keeper Paul Jones almost fumbled Stephen Dawson's effort into his own net before pushing it to safety. City defender Rob Edwards then scrambled a Scott McGleish shot off the line and Adam Chambers and Alex Revell both hit posts before Orient went ahead. This saw Revell head a cross from the right by Elliot Omozusi into City's far corner with six minutes of the first half to go. Exeter posed their first and only threat as the second half opened when Orient defender Terrell Forbes allowed John O'Flynn to escape and force home keeper Jamie Jones to concede a corner. Orient went two up when McGleish shrugged off challenges from two defenders and broke clear to stroke his shot past Paul Jones with 20 minutes remaining. Midfielder Dean Cox added a third - his first for the club - when he gathered a pass from McGleish and easily beat the keeper with 11 minutes of play left.
