Match Report

Leicester City moved to the brink of promotion back to the Championship after fighting back to win on their first-ever League visit to Edgar Street.

But Hereford United's chances of avoiding the drop have now virtually ebbed away and defeat at Tranmere on Monday could see them relegated after just a single season in League One.

Hereford had gone in front through Steve Guinan, but goals from Matty Oakley, Lloyd Dyer and Steven Howard sealed an important victory for the Foxes.

Hereford goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi had to show all of his quality in the 11th minute with an excellent save to turn away a fierce drive from Dyer.

But, although Leicester had the better of the early play, there was little to trouble the United defence.

Hereford had not been seen much in attack but the Bulls surprised everyone by taking the lead in the 28th minute.

Jennison Myrie-Williams sped onto a Febian Brandy pass but his run in the Leicester area was brought to a halt by Joe Mattock. Guinan stepped up to clip home his 13th goal of the season from the penalty spot.

But Hereford's lead lasted just six minutes.

Bulls skipper Karl Broadhurst was pulled up for a foul on Matt Fryatt and Oakley cracked a shot into the top corner with everyone seemingly expecting a cross.

Hereford matched their visitors for much of the early phases of the second period and the game seemed in the balance.

But, 16 minutes from time Hereford's tendency for defensive blunders was on show yet again as Richard Jackson failed to clear the ball and Dyer slid home after Howard's shot came back off the bar.

Howard wrapped up the points four minutes from the end, sidefooting home after Max-Alain Gradel crossed from the right.
