Chris Taylor struck twice as Oldham gave Leeds United an early reminder that promotion can't be taken for granted.

Former Leeds favourite John Sheridan masterminded a comfortable victory just as he did on New Year's Day.

With Craig Davies starting a three-match ban, Oldham boss Sheridan drafted in teenage striker Lewis Alessandra.

Gary McAllister made two changes from the side that thumped Chester 5-2, bringing David Prutton back in midfield in place of Fabian Delph and Enoch Showunmi to partner Jermaine Beckford instead of Luciano Becchio.

Former Leeds midfielder Sean Gregan showed there would be no favours for his former club with two sharp tackles that let Andy Robinson and Beckford know he was there and went on to dominate the match.

Neither side was able to make much impression in the first half, although Leeds created marginally the better chances with Robinson, Robert Snodgrass and Jonathon Douglas having shots blocked.

But after the half-time lectures, Oldham were much sharper and took the lead thanks to a mix up in the home defence.

Paul Huntington failed to deal with a bouncing ball, Frazer Richardson could only lift it on to his own bar and Taylor reacted quickly to head into the empty net.

Two minutes later, Alessandra put the ball in the net but to the relief of the Leeds fans his effort was ruled out for offside.

Leeds started to claw their way back into the match and had a shout for a penalty turned down when Shownmi went down in a challenge by Gregan.

But Oldham went further ahead when Lee Hughes picked out Taylor and he fired into the far corner.

McAllister made a double substitution sending on Delph and Becchio, but Leeds remained second best.
