Match Report

Leeds United scraped to a win that means while they head for the play-offs, Hartlepool's relegation worries remain until the last game of the season.

Jermaine Beckford's second-half goal was enough for the three points, but Pools played their part in a see-saw game.

In an end to end start, both teams had chances, but it was Leeds who should have been in front.

On nine minutes Beckford was picked out by Luciano Becchio, but his low shot from the edge of the area was cleared off the line by Joe Skarz.

Ten minutes later Bradley Johnson blasted a rising 20-yard free-kick against the underside of the home bar.

Meanwhile, at the other end, Leeds keeper Casper Ankergren did well as he dived to his right to save a header from Joel Porter and bravely dived at the feet of Daniel Nardiello at the end of a mazy run into the penalty area,.

On 29 minutes, Leeds were close again when defender Sam Sodje's header hit the angle of the home bar and post.

Leeds jumped in front on the hour when Ben Parker's shot pass into the areas on the left found Beckford, he turned well before slotting a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.

The second half wasn't as open as the first had been, Leeds now content to sit on their lead as Hartlepool struggled to get back into the game, working hard without being able to create any real chances

Leeds defended comfortably enough and even afforded themselves the luxury of taking off the ever-dangerous Beckford late on to save him for their play-off campaign.
