Match Preview
Hull City entertain Blackburn Rovers at the KC Stadium on Saturday with both teams looking for a win that would significantly ease their Premier League relegation fears.
With Sam Allardyce back in the Rovers dugout following heart surgery and instrumental Tigers midfielder Jimmy Bullard ruled out through injury, the clubs have had differing fortunes going into the clash.
Allardyce underwent the surgeon's knife at the end of November as he required angioplasty, a procedure to widen a narrowed coronary artery.
Deputy manager Neil McDonald took charge and watched Rovers end a miserable run on the road by beating Bolton Wanderers. They also lost at Fulham, drew at home to Stoke City, beat Chelsea on penalties in the Carling Cup and grabbed a point against Liverpool last weekend.
Rovers have failed to score in their last three Premier League outings and the management will be looking to Croatia striker Nikola Kalinic, Jason Roberts, Benni McCarthy and Franco Di Santo to turn the tide.
Phil Brown's Hull side are without Bullard, who won the Premier League Player of the Month Award for November.
The loveable star hadn't long been back from injury and, after playing important roles in the recent games against Stoke City, Manchester City and West Ham United, the former Fulham man crumbled in a heap with another knee injury at Aston Villa last weekend.
Following a scan, the club's fears were confirmed and he will miss between six and eight weeks which comes as a bitter blow for Brown.
Despite the disappointing loss at Villa last time out, the Tigers should take hope from their excellent results in November.
Two wins and two draws have hauled them outside the relegation places and another success on Saturday would further propel them away from the dreaded drop-zone.
Bullard joins long-term absentee Ian Ashbee on the sidelines as well as Seyi Olofinjana, who remains out with a hamstring injury he picked up on international duty.

Match Report
Hull City and Blackburn Rovers were forced to share the spoils after they played out a goalless draw at the KC stadium.
Rovers substitute Nikola Kalinic had the best chance of the game in the second half as he pounced on a loose ball inside the six-yard box and fired in a first-time shot, but the Croatia striker could only send ball agonisingly wide of the post.
Blackburn had a chance early on as a Richard Garcia foul on Junior Holliet allowed Benni McCarthy to try his luck from a close range free-kick, but his blasted right-footed effort flew well over the Hull crossbar.
Craig Fagan then had a great chance for the home side as George Boateng found the ex-Derby man completely free with a neat throughball, but the striker failed to capitalise as keeper Paul Robinson cleverly turned away his low right-footed effort.
Vince Grella then came close for Blackburn but his first-time right-footed effort curled up and over the bar from 18 yards.
Geovanni tried his luck for Hull towards the end of the half but his arrowed right-footed volley was comfortably saved by Robinson.
Hull midfielder Stephen Hunt was presented a chance minutes before the break but his cross-cum-shot from the left side of the box was well collected by Robinson.
Blackburn's Franco di Santo had a chance early in the second half but his speculative half-volley was easily saved by Hull keeper Boaz Myhill.
Boateng then found space for a shot at the other end of the pitch but his low left-footed drive was well saved by Robinson.
Garcia created a chance for himself on the hour mark as he cut inside the Blackburn defence, but his left-footed shot lacked any real power and allowed Robinson to make a comfortable save.
Kalinic found himself with a great chance moments later but he could only fire his left-footed shot into the side netting from 12 yards.
Kalinic then came within inches of putting the visitors in the lead but his first-time effort from close range trickled just past Myhill's right-hand post.
Hull substitute Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink nearly made an immediate impact with ten minutes left on the clock but his header from eight yards flew wide of the post.
