Match Report

Huddersfield staged a remarkable fightback to pick up a draw at Prenton Park.

Tranmere totally dominated the opening period after their keeper Gavin Ward made a good save from Andy Booth inside the first minute.

Rovers went ahead after 11 minutes with a well placed header by Calvin Zola from a cross by Chris Shuker.

Huddersfield were not helped by the loss through injury of Danny Schofield inside half an hour but Matthew Young turned out to be a more than able replacement with a superb second-half display.

Tranmere doubled their advantage after 37 minutes. Shuker was again the creator with Chris Greenacre firing home with an angled right-foot shot from 12 yards.

Greenacre had a goal disallowed from offside just before half-time and Shuker was unlucky to fire against the foot of a post seven minutes into the second half.

Huddersfield grabbed a lifeline in the 54th minute after Ward failed to hold a Young cross. The ball fell to Booth who netted from close range.

Tranmere had chances to re-establish their two-goal lead. Shuker when clean through from what seemed an offside position saw his shot blocked out by keeper Matt Glennon.

Then Glennon made two excellent stops in quick succession from Zola.

Huddersfield drew level in the 78th minute.

Substitute Luke Beckett played a key role, setting up Gary Taylor-Fletcher to beat Ward from the corner of the six-yard box.

Ward denied Beckett with an outstretched leg in the 79th minute as Huddersfield looked for a winner.

But Tranmere almost snatched it deep in injury time when Zola headed over following a Shuker free-kick.

Pawel Abbott made his presence felt for the visitors after going on for the second half when Huddersfield effectively changed their formation.

Tranmere lost central defender Chris McCready through injury after 49 minutes and things then went downhill for them.
