Match Report

Veteran striker Andy Booth staked his claim for one last contract as Huddersfield Town nailed Tranmere's play-off hopes.

Booth, 34, was offered a new 12-month deal a week before former boss Andy Ritchie was sacked.

Booth, known as 'Legend' at the Galpharm Stadium, wanted to end his career at the club where he started but must now wait for a new manager to be appointed.

Tranmere's play-off ambitions were ended by a third successive defeat as Huddersfield made it four matches unbeaten under caretaker Gerry Murphy.

Rovers had the better of a dour first half and Ben Chorley had a shot blocked by a defender's leg.

Huddersfield keeper Matt Glennon, who this week turned down a new contract, made a great save from Chris Shuker who burst into the box and seemed certain to score.

Glennon also made saves from Shane Sherriff and Steve Jennings in the first half.

After the break it was all Huddersfield and Booth's header from a Tom Clarke cross was comfortable for Danny Coyne.

Wantaway winger Danny Schofield made his first appearance in a month and sparked Huddersfield into life.

Joe Skarz fed Collins who raced into the penalty area and fired in a shot which Coyne could only parry.

Booth was there to slot in on the line for the only goal in the 61st minute.

Schofield could have made the points safe for the home side after a one-two between Collins and Andy Holdsworth, but Coyne denied him with his legs.
