Tony Pilkington was Huddersfield Town's hero, producing a superb solo performance, scoring one goal and then setting up the winner.

Rovers had snatched the lead at the start of the second half through Jo Kuffour but, apart from an intense spell after their goal, seldom looked like holding the Yorkshire club who they haven't beaten now in ten years.

For Huddersfield it was a second away win in four days after going seven without a victory.

In a game which took a long time to find a shape, Pilkington was always the difference and he made it tell during the final 20 minutes.

First he blasted in the 70th-minute equaliser from the right and then switched wings to destroy Rovers' defence.

As they attempted to scramble back into position he picked out Danny Cadamarteri with a perfectly weighted ball which the striker headed home.

Cadamarteri was always an energetic figure up front backed by Pilkington's supremacy on the right flank.

Pilkington always had the beating of his marker, Joe Jacobson, who was withdrawn at half-time.

Often Rovers were living on the edge sensing one mistake could be fatal as they defended desperately around the edge of the box.

One strong run by Pilkington and a cross by Tom Clarke had Steve Phillips stretching to fist away at his far post as Huddersfield fell just short.

Rovers, playing with three men up front, played a narrow game not very effectively, but were twice close to going in front in the opening half notably through Kuffour who snapped in a shot on the turn from the 18-yard line.

It was a good effort countered by an equally smart save by Alex Smithies and the goalkeeper was always on the top of his game.
