HONDURAS 0 - 1 CHILE: One goal does it for Chile, who looked far more comfortable than the scoreline suggests
Honduras have a late corner to try and shock the Chileans but they can't get a head to the ball and instead Chile break
Gonzalez finds the space for a couple of pot-shots from long range as three added minutes are announced
A half-chance for Welcome from 20 yards, which goes over the bar, will remind Chile that they can still draw this match if they're not careful
Ponce is given the chance to hit a free-kick from 40 yards but the wall does its job despite a powerful connection from the defender
Valdivia is given a well-earned rest as the left winger Mark Gonzalez comes on
Bravo does well to collect a low, front post Alvarez cross just ahead of Welcome
Honduras are starting to get frustrated as they just can't keep the ball enough to create some scoring chances
Another good chance from a free-kick as Medel wins the header but misses the target. He's offside anyway as it happens
Chile look like going to four at the back as defender Pablo Contreras comes on for midfielder Vidal, who has played his part well today
Udinese star Sanchez finds more space, this time centrally, but his shot from 20 yards doesn't test Valladares
A couple more runs from Sanchez down the right flank come to nothing as the final ball disappoints. The winger is again tormenting Figueroa
Honduras make their final change with Walter Martinez coming on for Nunez
The pressure continues with a free-kick on the left side, 40 yards out, which finds Carmona in the area but his header is deflected to Valladares
Disallowed goal for Chile as Sanchez handled the ball after Valladares palmed a 20 yard effort into his path. Surprisingly no yellow card for the Chilean
Sanchez works hard to win the ball back in the right corner before picking out Fernandez whose shot deflects away from goal
Valdivia looks to have been given a dead leg after jumping for a header and the forward is forced to limp off
Palacios tries to get Honduras going with a run inside from the left but is tackled and wins a corner which bounces off Ponce and falls kindly for Bravo to claim
A fine, last ditch tackle from Thomas robs Chile of a golden chance. Just as Sanchez was about the pull the trigger the sub slid in from the side and cleared
A good handball shout by Welcome in the Chile penalty area after a long ball from Figueroa but the referee shakes his head
Wigan's Hendry Thomas replaces Guevara as Honduras look to get back into this match before Chile score a second
Palacios concedes another free-kick on the left flank which for once creates a shot for Chile when Vidal headed back across for Ponce who was free at the far post but his diving header was brilliantly saved by Valladares
Almost a stunning solo effort for Sanchez, who skipped past one defender 25 yards out, burst into the penalty area but struck the ball poorly and wide of the far post
Figueroa continues to do better with Sanchez this half, tackling him this time inside the penalty area before the winger could get a shot off
The aging striker Pavon is replaced by the well named Georgie Welcome, another forward
A further chance for Fernandez to work on a set piece from the right flank and again the delivery is good but Honduras get there first. Good defending
Sanchez looked to have been fouled again, this time on the left of centre, just outside the penalty area, but the referee waves away his protests
Sanchez wins another free-kick on the right hand side which Fernandez swings in dangerously but Carrizo can't quite get enough of a head on the ball
Honduras have been trying to hold a higher line so far this half and press the ball further up the pitch but Chile have been too good with the ball so far
The games first substitution as Gonzalo Jara replaces Millar
More possession for Chile around the penalty area which finds its way through to Isla who shoots at Valladares but is a long way offside
Fernandez took the set piece short before swinging a dangerous ball in which Sanchez took two swings at before Mendoza and Pavon combine to block then clear
Chile do well to keep possession on the edge of the Honduras penalty area before Sanchez wins a corner after giving the ball away
It takes another good challenge, this time from Figueroa at the other end, to stop a similar attack with Beausejour down the Chilean right
A good chance for Honduras early on as Alvarez runs onto a ball but Medel wins his challenge on the edge of the box as appeals for a penalty are turned down
Chile restart the game here after coming out of their dressing room rather late, but no changes have been made
HONDURAS 0 - 1 CHILE: The corner tests Bravo again but Chile get the ball away far enough for the referee to blow for half time. An entertaining first half comes to an end
A decent hit from Nunez but straight at Bravo who pushes the ball over the bar for a corner
Emilio Izaguirre is fouled 30 yards from goal by Sanchez, tracking back with energy, winning a free-kick in a dangerous area
Rodrigo Millar finds Sanchez in far too much space 20 yards from goal and the winger cuts inside to shoot on his left foot but Figueroa blocks well
Valdivia this time plays the defence-splitting pace to Beausejour down the left but his low cross is cleared for a throw
Honduras are still struggling with the sheer number of Chilean players in their third of the pitch and must be considering making some changes at half time
Chile have, if anything, been given a boost of energy with that goal as Alvarez gets ran down trying to break before Nunez shoots over the bar under pressure from 25 yards
Valladares punches well from the resulting corner and takes a knock in the ribs for his troubles
That goal will hit Honduras hard as they look set up for a draw here. Some intent will have to be shown now but instead a Fernandez back-heel almost puts Valdivia through but Guevara tackles well
HONDURAS 0 - 1 CHILE: Fernandez at the heart of another move as a brilliant pass behind the defence finds Isla down the right who crosses into the six yard box where BEAUSEJOUR bundles the ball home
Palacios cuts a frustrated figure as the referee awards a mysterious yellow card for, apparently, persistent bad conduct
Chile win the ball back and send Sanchez away again but Figueroa ends his run this time, blocking him off without conceding a free-kick
Finally Sanchez finds some space on the right but Palacios tackles well and ignites a break down the Honduras left
Honduras seem to be pushing Chile onto their left flank, wary of the threat of Sanchez down the right, and Beausejour has yet to respond to the extra possession on his wing
Fernandez is becoming the focal point of Chilean attacks and his through-ball to Isla almost finds its intended target but Maynor Figueroa sticks out a leg to end the danger
Chile are still being given time to play the ball around in their own half before hitting a ball into Fernandez who can't turn through Palacios
More danger from Sanchez who ran to the byline in an attempt to find space before winning a corner. Fernandez finds a Chilean head this time but Vidal heads well over when he should at least hit the target from eight yards
A Honduras free kick in midfield is hit long for Pavon but the forward can't keep hold of the ball
The corner came out to Sanchez 20 yards out and sat up nicely but the Chilean miss-hit the shot and Valladares isn't tested
Ramon Nunez takes the set piece but Claudio Bravo comes and claims well before sending Sanchez on the counter-attack where he set up Valvidia for a shot that is deflected for a corner
Roger Espinoza was given far too much space to cut in from the right wing and hit a left footed shot that is deflected out for a corner
Referee Maillet is determined to clamp down on sliding tackles, showing his second yellow to Fernandez despite the Chilean winning the ball
A second corner from the right for Chile is put in deep where Gary Medel stretches but can't head towards goal. Honduras break quickly with Pavon but his shot from 25 yards skims wide
Honduras are holding a deep line here and conceding possession in midfield before fighting for it in the final third, much like the tactics of Ivory Coast yesterday
Finally Honduras find gaps of their own on the counter-attack but Roger Espinoza waited for support before over-hitting a deep cross. That space is there for Honduras though as Chile are charging forward
More gaps open up for Chile as Beausejour threads the ball through to Jorge Valdivia in the penalty area but the pass is heavy and Valdivia can't catch it in time
Sanchez though, seeing a lot of the ball, is crowded out and robbed of the ball by Honduras captain Amado Guevara who wins a free kick on the left wing
Chile will be buoyed by their early dominance and look likely to break through the Honduras back line, particularly through the pace of Alexis Sanchez on the right
Valladares is again tested with a Arturo Erasmo Vidal shot from all of 40 yards which swerved brutally in front of the Honduras keeper, causing him to drop his catch before claiming the ball at the second attempt
Carlos Alberto Pavon creates enough space to earn Honduras their first shooting chance but Mauricio Isla blocks the effort. Chile break quickly but a long ball is snuffed out by Valladares who rushes off his line to clear
Another rough tackle gives away a free kick in the right corner which causes a touch of panic in the penalty area before a snap shot from Jean Beausejour is hit straight at Noel Valladares
Carlos Carmona is an early victim of the new, harsher refereeing system as he earns a yellow card for a tough sliding tackle
More pressure from Chile with a corner on the right side, taken again by Fernandez who hit it deep where Palacios was waiting to head clear
Matias Fernandez struck it well with his right foot but the swerving, dipping effort didn't come down quick enough and merely ruffled the netting above the goal
We can be hopeful of a more exciting encounter than most over the past week, with Chile's attack intent. The favourites have an early chance with a central free-kick, 30 yards out
Honduras kick the match off and Chile have started, as expected, with an ultra-attacking 3-3-1-3
Chile are hoping to avoid extending their World Cup finals winless streak to 14 games today and have one of their most talented sides of recent decades, while Honduras are more limited and rely on Premier League star Wilson Palacios in midfield
Both teams have a player named Suazo out with injury today. Honduras will miss David Suazo, an Inter Milan forward, badly with few other options in attack, while Chile will suffer similarly without Humberto Suazo
Honduras and Chile get Group H underway in Nelspruit this lunchtime, a match that will be followed by the group favourites Spain against Switzerland
Chile won their first World Cup match since 1962, ending a 13-match winless run, with a comfortable 1-0 victory over Group H rivals Honduras.
Honduras were flattered by the scoreline in a match that was badly one-sided, as Chile showed plenty that will worry the two European nations in their group, Spain and Switzerland.
It didn't take long to see just how attacking Chile are as the South Americans adopted a 3-4-3 formation from kick-off, a system which was never under threat of attack from a Honduras team that set up deep, pressing the opposition only when they got within 40 yards of goal.
The potential for a counter-attack, with Chile often reduced to two at the back, was there for all to see and Honduras showed that the opportunity was there 18 minutes in where they drove downfield after a Chilean corner, only for Carlos Pavon to scuff his shot wide from 20 yards.
After half an hour though it was becoming increasingly clear that Honduras didn't have the ability to break on regular occasions and neither did they put in enough effort to close down playmaker Matias Fernandez.
Unsurprisingly chances started to come thick and fast, with Arturo Vidal heading a good Fernandez corner over after 25 minutes.
When Chile finally broke through after 34 minutes it was no surprise that Fernandez was at the heart of the move, playing a brilliant pass behind the defence which found Mauricio Isla down the right who crossed into the six-yard box, where Jean Beausejour had made a run to the front post.
The Mexican-based forward missed the ball with his first attempt but a ricochet off defender Sergio Mendoza hit him and found the corner of the net.
Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez was involved in almost every Chile attack except that goal and almost doubled the lead a minute before the interval, when he cut in from the right flank and fired a shot which was well blocked by the heavily-tested Wigan left-back Maynor Figueroa.
Honduras pushed higher up the pitch in the second half but couldn't stop Sanchez and Chile. Waldo Ponce missed the best chance of the period when Vidal headed a Fernandez free-kick back across for him he was free at the far post but his diving header was brilliantly saved by Noel Valladares.
In reality though Chile didn't need any great urgency as Honduras looked impotent in attack and failed to test goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.
