Match Report
St Mirren gained a precious point in their bid to beat the drop but will feel they should have taken all three against Hibs.
Saints controlled most of the game and outscored Hibs 12-2 on corners but only had a first-half strike from Andy Dorman to show for their toils.
The home side started well and some great work from Dorman almost brought the opener but the ball struck Craig Dargo and bounced wide.
Scott Cuthbert managed to get his head to a Dorman corner after 16 minutes but could not connect properly and the ball flew well wide.
The home side dominated the first half but Hibs were dangerous on the break with the pace of Alan O'Brien always a threat.
Steven Fletcher robbed Jack Ross but his cross just carried too much weight and Colin Nish could not steer his header on target.
Fletcher then tried his luck from 25 yards but the ball struck Mo Camara and finished wide of the post.
But St Mirren took the lead with a wonderful goal after 28 minutes. Hibs failed to clear their lines and the ball broke to the excellent Dorman and his right-foot strike flew into the roof of the net past Grzegorz Szamotulski.
Hibs struggled to muster a response and, if anything, St Mirren looked more likely to add to their lead as they won a string of corners.
Derek Riordan had a glimpse of goal after linking with Fletcher but sent his shot wide of goal and failed to trouble Mark Howard.
Then a moment of magic from Fletcher put Hibs level in first-half stoppage time. Riordan sent a superb ball over the top of the Saints defence and the Scotland striker produced a stunning left-foot finish.
Dorman missed a good chance for his second moments after the break but sliced his shot wide when he looked certain to score at the back post.
Fletcher had a chance at the other end when he opted to go himself when he had others in support but sent his shot just a foot too high.
It took an instinctive save from Szamotulski to keep Hibs level when Denes Rosa looked to have diverted the ball into his own net but was relieved to see his goalkeeper intervene.
Dargo was then just inches away from connecting with a low ball across goal from substitute Jim Hamilton with Hibs on the rack.
But it was Hibs that came closest when Sol Bamba powered in a header which Howard somehow managed to touch over his crossbar.
Bamba came even closer from the resultant corner when he sent an effort against the crossbar with Saints caught out again.
Substitute Garry Brady missed a late chance for Saints when he shot into the side-netting after carving out the opportunity for himself.
