Match Preview
Fenlon happy but eyeing improvements Hibernian manager Pat Fenlon is "more than happy" with his new-look squad - but is still looking to improve it. Fenlon has brought in eight players in a summer of transition, with Finnish striker Shefki Kuqi the latest. Improvement has already been evident despite a 3-0 opening defeat to Dundee United in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. Hibs then fought back to draw with Hearts and won 2-1 at St Mirren last weekend to create optimism ahead of Saturday's visit of St Johnstone. But Fenlon will not stop his rebuilding job before the transfer window closes. The Irishman, who boasts an unchanged squad ahead of the weekend, told Hibernian TV: "I think I'm still driving everybody mad about bringing players in; I think the board will be very happy when the window is done and dusted. "But we're still trying to improve the squad. I still feel there are one or two areas where we need to strengthen. "I think last week was a good example of that, where we didn't have a midfielder on the bench at St Mirren. "Both Gary (Deegan) and Jorge (Claros) haven't played a lot of football and we had to leave them on where we could have taken one of them off. "There are one or two areas we want to improve on. In fairness to the club, they are working hard with me to see if we can rectify that. "We're looking at the midfield and one other area. It depends on where we are at the end of the window as to what we can do." Fenlon added: "I have to be honest and say I'm more than happy with the squad we've got at the moment. "I think the players we've brought in and the ones we've kept have worked really hard in pre-season and in the games. I'm delighted with them. "Adding to the squad is about helping them and making sure we're strong on numbers so if we do have any injuries we can cope - but also being mindful of the fact we can introduce young players in as well. "So we need to get that balance right and make sure we're covering all the areas. "It maybe a case that if we can bring in one or two then some of the younger lads will be able to get some experience somewhere out on loan." Steve Lomas is looking for his St Johnstone side to get their season up and running with a win over Hibernian at Easter Road. The Perth side are above Scottish Premier League bottom club Dundee only on goal difference with one point from three games. A 2-0 defeat by Hearts at Tynecastle on opening day was followed by a 1-1 draw at Motherwell and then a 2-1 home loss to Aberdeen last week. Lomas is looking for Saints to put their early-season woes behind them against Hibs. He said: "In the first two games I was pleased with the performances but we didn't get the points that was merited. "We had two sendings off in those first two games so it was self-inflicted. "I wasn't happy with the Aberdeen performance although we had five key players missing, three strikers who were out and then two midfielders went off injured. "Even though I was disappointed with the Aberdeen game, at the end of the day we could have nicked something even though it would have been undeserved. "But last season we bounced back well after a setback and we are looking for them to do that against Hibs. "Easter Road is a good place to play football and Hibs will be buoyed by their win over St Mirren last week. "But we can't worry about Hibs, we have to worry about ourselves." Peter Pawlett will go into Lomas' squad after the 21-year-old winger this week signed on loan until the end of January from Aberdeen. Strikers Rowan Vine and Gregory Tade are back from suspension but Craig Beattie looks unlikely to feature though illness. Midfielder Chris Millar is out with a hamstring strain while Murray Davidson is extremely doubtful with his knee injury. Lomas said: "We are delighted to get Peter, he is a good player and has pace, the type of player we have been looking for. "Aberdeen think highly of him but they have a few players in wide areas and they wanted him to get games and I thank Craig Brown for that. "Like every manager, I would like a couple of more but we have to be realistic and we will wait and see. "We have 12 players who have gone out and nine have come in so it will take time to gel."
