Match Preview

Green returns for Bulls Hereford welcome back Ryan Green for their home clash against local rivals Shrewsbury. The right-back missed last weekend`s goalless draw at Rotherham with a shoulder problem but returns to the fold as former manager and chairman Graham Turner brings his Shrews side to Edgar Street looking for three points to aid their promotion charge. Midfielder Daniel Stratford also failed to make the matchday 18 at the Don Valley Stadium for family reasons, meaning United had just six substitutes, but he is back and will again return to the bench. That means manager Jamie Pitman will have a full-strength squad at his disposal as Hereford go in search of three points that could all-but clinch their survival. Pitman was on Thursday rewarded for his success since taking the reins at the start of October with a permanent two-year contract and victory on Saturday would see him celebrate that against the very man whom he played under at Hereford and then served as club physio. Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner must decide whether to stick or twist with his starting XI. After watching his Town side lose 3-0 at Aldershot the week previous, Turner made three changes for last Saturday`s comfortable 2-0 home victory over Stockport. Out went - albeit out of form - leading scorers Mark Wright and Matt Harrold as well as on-loan defender Niall Canavan, to be replaced by Lionel Ainsworth, Tom Bradshaw and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff. And with no new injury or suspensions problems expected, Turner must decide whether to keep faith with the same XI who saw off the Hatters or hand a recall to any of his omitted trio. But he will no doubt be expecting a tough test at Edgar Street, a ground he knows all too well having parted ways with Hereford last summer after 15 years service as both manager and then chairman. Both sides need the points for very different reasons, with the Bulls desperate to all but secure their survival while victory for fourth-placed Town would strengthen their promotion prospects.

Match Report

Shrews win to go third Shrewsbury completed a double over Hereford to enhance their automatic promotion push with a goal in each half to secure a 2-0 victory at Edgar Street. James Collins put the visitors in front in the 28th minute, with Tom Bradshaw claiming the second in the 55th minute to move the Shrews back up to third place. Both sides had half chances in the early stages, with striker Bradshaw having a shot turned away for a corner by goalkeeper Adam Bartlett . Bradshaw also headed inches wide from a cross by Jon Taylor, then at the other end James McQuilkin rifled over the crossbar from a pass by Stuart Fleetwood. However, Shrewsbury swept into the lead in the 28th minute when Collins raced past his marker before beating keeper Bartlett with a low drive from 12 yards. Bradshaw went close to increasing the Shrews' lead a minute later, but his sharp volley was acrobatically saved by Bartlett. Just before the break only a fine save by Shrewsbury goalkeeper Ben Smith stopped Nicky Featherstone levelling for the Bulls when he turned a 30-yard drive away for a corner. But 10 minutes into the second period Bradshaw headed home Shrewsbury's second goal from a back header by Shane Cansdell-Sherriff from a corner.
