Match Preview

Pitman to pick Purkiss? Ben Purkiss returns to contention for Hereford's home encounter against AFC Wimbledon. The right-back missed Tuesday's crushing 5-4 reverse at Gillingham due to a one-match suspension for his dismissal in last weekend's draw against Bradford. Purkiss' availability provides welcome defensive reinforcements for under-pressure manager Jamie Pitman, who was boosted in midweek by Michael Townsend's return from his own two-match ban. Purkiss will go straight back into Pitman's XI after Danny Williams, who was standing in at right-back at Priestfield for his first appearance since September, was forced off with a knock in the 74th minute. Defenders Benoit Dalibard (hamstring), Joe Heath (groin) and Stefan Stam (knee) as well as striker Richard Peniket (ankle) all remain sidelined as the struggling Bulls look to improve upon a home record which is the worst in npower League Two. Luke Moore could be added to the AFC Wimbledon squad. The midfielder has been out for a month with a knee injury but resumed training this week and hopes to travel. Winger Kieran Djilali has recovered from a hamstring injury but is struggling for match fitness and is not expected to be involved. The match will also come too soon for left-back Gareth Gwillim (hamstring) and midfielder Ricky Wellard (ankle), although both are close to returning. There will be a change on the bench after on-loan full-back Gavin Hoyte returned to Arsenal. Defender Brett Johnson and midfielder Brendan Kiernan are back from loan spells but midfielder Max Porter has joined Newport County until the end of the season.

Match Report

Bulls rediscover home comforts Hereford ended their barren run of 10 home games without a win with a 2-1 victory over AFC Wimbledon at Edgar Street. Lyle Taylor and Tom Barkhuizen put Hereford two up at the break before Jack Midson reduced the deficit, but the Bulls held on to record their first home win since October. Billy Knott went close to putting Wimbledon in front after three minutes with a powerful 20-yard drive, but Hereford took the lead on the counter when Ben Purkiss crossed to Taylor, who hooked the ball into the net from eight yards in the 18th minute. Wimbledon responded, with Midson heading wide from close range, while Sammy Moore failed to find the target from 25 yards. But Hereford broke again for Barkhuizen to score from six yards after receiving a low cross from Taylor in the 34th minute. Hereford survived another let-off when Midson drove the ball against the post, while Dons striker Byron Harrison found the net five minutes before the break, only to be ruled offside. The visitors pulled a goal back through Midson, who rose high above the Hereford defence to beat goalkeeper David Cornell in the 68th minute, and then laid siege to the Hereford goal. But the hosts stood firm.
