Grainger: It's all about the league - for now
Left-back Danny Grainger is adamant Hearts are focused only on the Clydesdale Bank Premier League and are not distracted by the tantalising prospect of next month's Scottish Cup final with Edinburgh rivals Hibernian.
At the behest of manager Paulo Sergio, the Hearts players are not permitted to discuss the May 19 William Hill Scottish Cup showpiece with Hibs, and Grainger insists the SPL is all that matters at present.
"We don't need to talk about the cup," said the 25-year-old defender ahead of Saturday's clash with Rangers. "We've got five big games in the league to talk about. That's what we're concentrating on.
"It's been a massive week for the club. Now we've just got to look forward to the last five games of the season, try to get as high up the league as we can before the big one at the end of the season. Our aim is still to finish in the European places. That hasn't changed.
"Every game is massive for us. If it was a time in the season when we didn't have much to play for then it would be a lot harder. We've got five big games which can determine whether we play in Europe or not.
"The boys all know we've got five massive games now to make sure we do the business in the league, finish the league as positive as we can and then look to the cup."
Jamie Hamill and Adrian Mrowiec are the only definite absentees for the Gers clash.
Right-back Hamill (knee) is already out until next season and midfielder Mrowiec (also knee) is unlikely to play again this term, but there was better news over winger David Templeton, who could return from his groin injury.
Defender Andy Webster (thigh), Craig Beattie (heel) and fellow forward Stephen Elliott (hip) all played in last weekend's cup semi-final win over Celtic despite recent injuries and could be rested, but winger Mehdi Taouil (back) remains a doubt.
Manager Ally McCoist believes Rangers must find a solution to their financial problems before the end of May amid fears of liquidation for the administration-hit club.
American businessman Bill Miller has unveiled plans for an #11.2million bid which would create what he described as an "incubator" company while Duff and Phelps aim to take the club out of administration through a Company Voluntary Arrangement.
The towing tycoon is technically the only bidder still in the running after Bill Ng's Singapore consortium announced their withdrawal in the last 24 hours, while a new offer from Sale Sharks owner Brian Kennedy was rejected by administrators this week.
Paul Murray's Blue Knights took a step back from the bidding process on Monday, although they have since indicated they could return to the table.
As far as McCoist is concerned, time is running out for the stricken Glasgow giants to find a resolution.
He said: "It's only my opinion but I don't think we can afford to wait until anything like the end of May. That's just my opinion, it's not what I've been told."
Players and coaching staff last month agreed wage cuts of up to 75% until the end of the season in a bid to avoid widespread redundancies but McCoist does not believe an extension to those cuts is a viable option.
He said: "I don't think that would happen. I think something else would happen before that."
Asked if that would mean serious cuts or potential liquidation, he added: "I don't like to deal in guess-work but you would probably be dealing in the latter I would think."
McCoist will be without skipper Steven Davis.
The midfielder is sidelined with a groin injury which may require surgery but full-backs Steven Whittaker (hamstring) and Lee Wallace (ankle) are both fit for the trip to Tynecastle.
Manager Ally McCoist revealed Steven Naismith was given "the all-clear" by his surgeon this week after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage in October, but does not yet know if the attacking midfielder will play again this season.
"Will David Moyes be able to turn it around at Ma..."
