Match Preview
Jambos snap up free agent Enckelman Hearts have solved their short-term goalkeeping problems by signing Peter Enckelman. The Finn, who was a free agent after departing St Johnstone in the summer, has signed until January. Hearts this week lost back-up goalkeeper Mark Ridgers for at least three months after he suffered knee ligament damage while playing for Scotland Under-21s. First-choice keeper Jamie MacDonald's partner was due to give birth a week ago, which left Scotland Under-19 international Jack Hamilton on stand-by for the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Inverness on Saturday. Enckelman admitted his move had come out of the blue. The 35-year-old told Hearts TV: "The first time I even heard about this was less than 48 hours ago. "[On Thursday] there were some contract talks and it has been resolved so I'm very happy. "It's been a long summer in the wrong terms and I'm really excited to get back involved - coming to a club like Hearts is great." Enckelman realises he may be called upon quickly depending on MacDonald's situation. "That was one of the first things I heard about in the dressing room, he is expecting his first child," he said. "I hope everything goes well for him. "I'm always ready to step in, that's one of the good things with being slightly older. "When you have got the experience behind you, that comes into play in these situations." Hearts face Inverness looking for an improved showing after John McGlynn criticised his players' attitude in the 1-1 derby draw against Hibernian. Defender Darren Barr said: "We knew ourselves after the game that the performance wasn't as it should have been and we want to rectify things this weekend and put things right. "We know we didn't give a good account of ourselves, especially after our performance in the first week against St Johnstone. "We know we can play a lot better and the home fans will be expecting much better against Inverness. "They are a strong physical side and they'll make it difficult for us, we know they'll be up for a fight and it's up to them to match that level of commitment." Inverness captain Richie Foran is eager to make his mark in Terry Butcher's new-look side after sitting out their first two Clydesdale Bank Premier League games through suspension. Foran is likely to replace Owain Tudur Jones in central midfield against Hearts after the Welshman was sent off in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock. Caley Thistle have also drawn against St Mirren and Foran was impressed with summer signings such as Ross Draper and Simon King. Foran said: "I'm eager to get back involved. While I haven't been playing, I got to watch the last game and we played really well, especially in the first half hour, we played some attractive football. "We deserved to win. There are really encouraging signs and hopefully I can add more when I get back. "We have a really good blend of players. We got all the players in for the start of pre-season, they have all settled in. "They all have a presence about them, they are all big, big physical players who can play football as well." Irishman Foran is relishing a trip to Tynecastle. "Every time I went there when I played with Motherwell I nearly always scored," he said. "We have done well there with Inverness too and it's one of my favourite grounds. "There is a great atmosphere and it's a nice and compact ground." The match sees Butcher locking horns again with Hearts manager John McGlynn, who faced Caley Thistle in the First Division with Raith. Butcher said: "John's sides are very hard-working sides, good honest teams. He demands everything from his team and generally gets it back. "He's a lovely guy, players like him because he is honest. He gets stuck in and works hard. "We had a number of battles with Raith Rovers in the First Division, we were fortunate at times to come out on top. "I remember a particular game where we won 4-3 with a Richie Foran overhead kick in the last minute. "We had difficult games down at Raith Rovers, he puts out sides that are difficult to beat but with a bit of flair as well."
