Match Preview

Locke: Our aim is top-six finish Hearts first-team coach Gary Locke has denied the opportunity to keep Hibernian in relegation danger provides an added incentive for Sunday's Edinburgh derby at Tynecastle. Hibs last won a capital clash in May 2009 and enter the fixture four points clear of Dunfermline in the fight to avoid the drop from the Clydesdale Bank Premier League. Instead, Locke insists Hearts are solely concentrating on a victory which would strengthen their bid to secure a place in the top half of the table as the SPL split approaches. He said: "We don't think about that. It's most important that we try to win the game. "The only thing we're thinking about is trying to get the three points to try to move ourselves up the league table. "It's a big game for us because if we can get three points hopefully that will take us a step closer to consolidating our place in the top six. "Our main aim at the moment is just to make sure we finish in the top six. Hopefully we can do that over the next two or three weeks. "After that, hopefully we can finish the season strong and if we can get in the European slots, then great." Locke has been impressed by Hibs' displays in recent weeks, with Pat Fenlon's team embarking on a three-match unbeaten run and advancing to the semi-finals of the William Hill Scottish Cup - something Paulo Sergio's men are also seeking to do in next Wednesday's replay at St Mirren. "They've got a lot of quality," Locke said. "When you've got a player of Garry O'Connor's quality on the bench you've got quality there. Leigh Griffiths has done very well in the last few of games, he's looked sharp and scored goals. We have to be wary of him. "I think it's more important we concentrate on what Hearts do. If we can play to our capabilities hopefully we can get a win." Striker Craig Beattie is set to experience an Edinburgh derby for the first time, having played for Celtic in Old Firm derbies early in his career. Locke said: "At the weekend (against St Mirren) he did very well. He's got a lot of experience and that was one of the reasons we brought him to the club. "Hopefully his experience can rub off on some of our really talented kids and if he can add goals in the next two or three games, hopefully it can help the team." Manager Pat Fenlon insists Hibernian are determined to end their Edinburgh derby misery. The Easter Road side have failed to register a victory at Tynecastle since May 2009, however, Fenlon believes their three-year wait for a victory can be looked upon as a positive. "It's a good omen, we know we are going to have to play well to win and I am really looking forward to the game," said Fenlon. "We have brought a lot of new players in but still have a few players who have played in the derby too, it is a different team and we are hoping for a different result from our meeting earlier in the year. "In fairness, on the day I thought we were a little unlucky, I think that has been the case in recent matches between Hearts and Hibs and we are hoping to reverse that. "We have to make sure our own players perform on the day, it's a massive game for us and gives us the chance to put a bit of daylight between ourselves and Dunfermline. "It would be a massive three points and give us a massive lift going into the remainder of the season." Fenlon can rely on the support of former Hearts assistant manager Billy Brown on Sunday. Brown enjoyed two spells at Tynecastle under Jim Jefferies and the Hibs boss believes his knowledge will be a huge boost. "We have spoken about Hearts over the last few days and have watched plenty of DVD's as well," he added. "It is good to have Billy's knowledge, he knows a lot about the players and brought a lot of them to the club, so that's a help." Following last weekend's 2-0 victory over Ayr United, Hibs have recorded back-to-back away wins for the second time this season. Fenlon admits he is not sure why his team have performed better away from home since his arrival from Bohemians in December, but is keen to address the situation as quickly as possible. He said: "It's something we want to change though, if we can pick up our away form we have a great combination." Hearts confirmed a delay in paying this month's player salaries on Friday, blaming their fringe players for choosing an easy life.
