Match Report

Hartlepool United desperately needed something from this relegation six-pointer in Somerset - and they deserved the three points that could well keep them in League One.

But manager Chris Turner is not counting on survival just yet as they have fewer matches than the other strugglers and next up it is promotion-chasing Leeds United.

Yeovil went into the match confident that three points would see them reach their survival target, and when they took the lead in the seventh minute things were looking good. Jon Obika found space on the left and his pass left Gavin Tomlin in the clear for an easy finish.

Hartlepool got the boost they needed five minutes later when goalkeeper Chris Weale tangled with his own defender, Lee Peltier, and the visitors' Joel Porter. When Porter went down the linesman flagged for a penalty and he got up to blast the kick high to Weale's right hand.

Hartlepool dominated the remainder of the first half against a surprisingly flat Yeovil side and it was no surprise when they took the lead right on half-time with Porter again the marksman. This time he got his head to a precision pass from Andy Monkhouse.

Yeovil showed more battling spirit after the break and equalised on 57 minutes. Winger Andros Townsend, on loan from Spurs, sent a left-footed free-kick from the right through a crowded penalty area and inside the far post of goalkeeper Jan Budtz.

Yeovil almost got another seven minutes later, but a lob from Tomlin went just wide and when the final goal came it was for the visitors. Monkhouse was again the provider and this time it was Daniel Nardiello who beat Weale with a header.

Further goals threatened with Sam Collins hitting the top of the crossbar following a Hartlepool corner, and Tomlin again being out of luck with a fierce shot that took a deflection.
