Match Preview

Wadsworth ponders options Hartlepool caretaker manager Mick Wadsworth has to rethink his options ahead of his side's FA cup game against Vauxhall Motors. Wadsworth was planning on re-shuffling his squad to give his fringe players a chance but after the midweek abandonment against Notts County he will wait to name his squad. James Poole has extended his loan stay from Manchester City and has been given permission to play in the first round while Evan Horwood could come back into the Pools starting line-up after a hip problem. Denis Behan is struggling with a shoulder injury and Adam Boyd is unlikely to feature after a back problem. The called off game on Tuesday has given midfielder Ritchie Humphreys (thigh) and striker James Brown (ankle) more time to recover from their injuries and both could feature on Saturday. Vauxhall Motors manager Carl Macauley has a fully-fit squad available for the trip. Macauley saw his side stretch their unbeaten run to nine matches with a 3-2 victory over Hyde United in Blue Square North last Saturday and will go with the same side. Andy Nicholas and Chris Noone will be the dangermen after their goals gave Motors that win. Macauley's scouting mission in midweek was ruined when Pools' game against Notts County was abandoned after less than three minutes, but he has been helped out by fellow scousers Karl Robinson at MK Dons and Les Parry at Tranmere. He said: "We tried to do our homework ourselves on Tuesday night but it was a nightmare. "Fortunately some of our friends in League One have helped us out. Tranmere have done their homework because they play Hartlepool later this month. "Both Tranmere and MK Dons have sent us a DVD and a report on how Hartlepool set up. I know Hartlepool came down at the weekend and had a look at us which is brilliant. It shows they are giving us respect."

Match Report

Motormen hold Pools Vauxhall Motors performed heroically as they earned a memorable goalless draw at Hartlepool. There are 74 places between the Conference North side and their League One opponents but it counted for little and the teams must replay a week on Tuesday. Pools missed a stack of early chances with Antony Sweeney the biggest culprit. First his one-on-one effort was smothered by Scott Tynan, then his lob went over the keeper but wide of the far post. The Motormen netted on 33 minutes but Joshua Wilson's header was long flagged offside. The home side were reduced to 10 men aftern 86 minutes when substitute striker Ritchie Humphreys slid in on Tynan. The goalkeeper was stretchered off after a lengthy stoppage and taken to a waiting ambulance with a suspected broken leg.
