Match Preview
Boyd worry for Pools Hartlepool are sweating on the fitness of striker Adam Boyd ahead of the clash with League One pacesetters Sheffield Wednesday. Boyd is suffering from a knee injury and will be assessed on Friday. Strike partner James Brown has shaken off a similar problem and is set to start, while Fabian Yantorno is in contention for selection after overcoming a back complaint. Neil Austin (ankle) remains on the sidelines but is pencilled in for a return to training next week. Ritchie Humphreys was an unused substitute in the midweek Carling Cup defeat to Wigan and remains short of match-fitness following an Achilles problem. Pools are unbeaten in three league outings this season and Wadsworth was triumphant in his first game as caretaker manager last weekend, a 2-0 win at Yeovil. Defender Darren Purse is set to make a timely return to the Sheffield Wednesday starting line-up. Purse missed Tuesday night's 4-2 Carling Cup defeat to Scunthorpe with a calf injury but is likely to take the place of the suspended Richard Hinds. Hinds saw red against Scunthorpe and will serve a one-match ban this weekend. Midfielder Tommy Miller is pushing for a place in the starting line-up after coming on to play the final half hour against Scunthorpe following a hamstring strain. Clinton Morrison played the full game against Scunthorpe after missing the 1-0 win over Brighton last weekend due to a groin problem and should keep his place. Owls manager Alan Irvine will again be without Jermaine Johnson as the winger continues his rehabilitation after damaging knee ligaments.

Match Report
Owls fly high Three goals in the opening 23 minutes set Sheffield Wednesday on their way to a comfortable 5-0 win at Hartlepool and into top spot in League One. Neil Mellor was instrumental in the victory, scoring one and creating two as Wednesday ran riot. Joe Gamble had already cleared off the line by the time Mellor raced away on the counter attack on eight minutes. His square ball was intended for Marcus Tudgay, but midfielder Paul Murray swept the ball into his own net from eight yards. Two minutes later the lead was doubled. Tudgay raced down the right, Mellor picked up the loose ball and passed for Giles Coke to sidefoot home. On 23 minutes Wednesday added to their lead with a sublime Mellor finish. He took a defence-splitting pass from Darren Potter and drilled his finish across Scott Flinders. The only time opposite number Nicky Weaver was troubled came when he dived to push out a long-range Andy Monkhouse volley. Goal number four arrived on 72 minutes. Mellor was brought down by Flinders as he went around the goalkeeper and Tudgay slotted in from the penalty spot. And Clinton Morrison completed the rout in injury time, curling into the top corner from 25 yards.
