Match Preview

Wadsworth sweating over Sweeney Hartlepool first-team coach Mick Wadsworth will wait on the fitness of Anthony Sweeney before naming his squad for the home clash with Leyton Orient. The midfielder was forced off during Saturday's 2-0 win over Plymouth with a nasty gash in his ankle which required stitches and it remains to be seen whether the 13-goal top-scorer will face the O's. If not, 34-year-old midfielder Paul Murray could be recalled after being rested against the Pilgrims following a gruelling programme of fixtures. Right-back Neil Austin remains sidelined with an ongoing calf problem, but winger Fabian Yantorno is back in contention following his 13-minute cameo at the weekend. Pools will be looking to secure their third successive home win. Russell Slade should have a fully-fit Alex Revell at his disposal seek their fourth win in a row. The O's have not conceded a single goal during their winning run, which started immediately after they were beaten 5-0 by Arsenal in the FA Cup. Revell completed more than an hour of their 1-0 victory over Oldham after passing a late fitness test following an injury he picked up in the previous match. Jonathan Tehoue replaced him in both matches and will be looking to secure his own place in the team. Midfielder Jimmy Smith has sat out of the last four games with a hamstring injury and looks set to be missing again. Paul-Jose M'Poku's late winner against the Latics could see the Tottenham loanee handed a start.

Match Report

Orient rewrite history books Leyton Orient made it a club-record 14 games without defeat as they enjoyed a controlled 1-0 victory at Hartlepool. A single goal from Jimmy Smith proved enough for Russell Slade's side, who have not lost since New Year's Day. Pools started brightly and created three chances in the opening seven minutes, but the closest they came to scoring was when James Brown flighted an angled shot over. The O`s should have had a penalty when Alex Revell was felled by goalkeeper Scott Flinders, but referee Jon Moss played on. Yet they did take the lead after 28 minutes. Dean Cox crossed from the right and Smith met the ball on the volley to send his finish across Flinders and into the far corner. Orient's controlled possession game saw them dictate the first half but Pools came back in the second. Leon McSweeney tested Jamie Jones from distance and the keeper made a flying save to deny Andy Monkhouse from close range. The winger headed onto the roof of the net and then against the bar and in the 89th minute while midfielder Matt Spring sliced a clearance onto his own crossbar, but the Os survived.
