Match Preview

Flinders back in Pools frame Goalkeeper Scott Flinders could return to the bench when Hartlepool host Dagenham. The 24-year-old completed an hour of a friendly against Horden in midweek after suffering a thumb ligament injury in September, and has resumed full training. On-loan shot-stopper Jake Kean has impressed this season and he is likely to continue until Flinders is deemed able to play a full 90 minutes. Defender Sam Collins will miss the game with the knee injury he sustained against Oldham on New Year's Day. First-team coach Mick Wadsworth is hoping to sign a new centre-back on loan as cover. Striker Denis Behan will miss out with a hamstring problem suffered in training. Dagenham manager John Still is without defender Will Antwi for the trip. The former Wycombe centre-half has missed training all week with a leg injury and will not be considered as the Daggers look to clamber off the foot of the table. On-loan Cardiff midfielder Soloman Taiwo still has a hamstring issue which forced him out of the 1-0 home defeat to Rochdale last weekend so Peter Gain will continue in the middle. Striker Marvin Morgan is pushing for a first start since joining on loan from League Two strugglers Aldershot, but Still is without two other loan signings. Forward Kayleden Brown returned to West Brom last week to recuperate from a knee injury and his loan spell with the Daggers has now expired. And Liverpool reserve-team captain Victor Palsson has also returned to Merseyside after the midfielder made just three appearances since arriving at the start of November.

Match Report

Daggers stage smash and grab raid Dagenham stole a 1-0 victory at Hartlepool with a goal four minutes from time to move off the foot of the table. An awful game, ruined by the wind, ended with a scrappy goal by Gavin Tomlin from close range. Pools boss Mick Wadsworth collected the manager of the month award for December before the game, but it counted for little as his side failed to perform after a bright and encouraging start. Neil Austin fired a 30-yard drive inches wide before Gary Liddle's shot crashed against the woodwork. Austin's goalbound free-kick from 20 yards was then diverted wide and Andy Monkhouse headed onto the roof of the net, while the closest the Daggers came to scoring in the first half was when a 40-yard Danny Green free-kick hit the roof of the stand behind the goal. But the second-half was a tame affair as Pools, playing with the wind behind them lost their composure. And the visitors won it at the death when Armann Bjornsson failed to clear his lines, Jon Nurse crossed low and Tomlin poked the ball in at the near post.
