Match Report

Stockport hung on for a win which keeps them firmly in the hunt for the League One play-offs.

Sun Michael Mackay grabbed a late consolation for Hartlepool, but the hosts deserved to prevail.

Pools' midfielder Andy Monkhouse was the first to try a shot at Edgeley Park. However, his second minute effort was comfortably blocked by 'keeper Owain Fon Williams.

Gary Liddle found space just outside the Stockport box but his shot sailed harmlessly over.

Stockport showed first on 18 minutes. Michael Rose swung over a great cross from the left but the on-rushing Leon McSweeney could only head over the crossbar from just eight yards out.

However, Irishman McSweeney went close five minutes later when he curled a brilliant shot inches wide of the post.

Stockport loan man Chris O'Grady was again proving a handful for the opposition defence and he unleashed a smart shot which Arran Lee-Barrett saved well.

At the other end Hartlepool hit back with Keigan Parker firing a low drive narrowly wide.

Three minutes before the break Stockport came close when Johnny Mullins crossed for O'Grady, who disappointingly scooped a shot over from close range.

Hartlepool raced out of the blocks in the second half. Within minutes of the restart both Porter and Joel Parker were thwarted by a superb double save from 'keeper Fon Williams.

Stockport rallied themselves though and on 53 minutes Michael Raynes saw a powerful header deflected just wide for a corner kick.

Tommy Rowe's volley was then bravely blocked by Sam Collins, before the hosts eventually went in front with 55 minutes on the clock.

Rose crossed and there was McSweeney who buried a right-foot shot into the corner of the Lee-Barrett's net.

Ten minutes later Stockport doubled their advantage with a special goal from teenager James Vincent.

He crashed in his first League goal for County from all of 25 yards to seal the win.
