Match Report

Steve Guinan's first-half strike seemed to be setting Hereford on the way to back-to-back wins for the first time this season, but Hartlepool fought back to dominate the second half and earned a deserved point after Dean Beckwith put through his own goal.

The visitors forced a corner after just 14 seconds but after that it was the home side who controlled the first period.

Guinan forced a good save from goalkeeper Jan Budtz with an acrobatic overhead shot and Matt Done had a great chance to open the scoring in the 10th minute, driving his shot wide from 15 yards after Guinan's pass opened up the defence.

It was another good move which brought the opening goal on 18 minutes.

Toumani Diagouraga's pass set Lionel Ainsworth free on the right and his cross was driven past Budtz at the second attempt by Guinan.

Budtz saved well from Ainsworth and then from Guinan as Hereford sought to build on their advantage.

Hartlepool continued to pump the ball forward to Kevin Kyle who won a lot in the air but with little end product.

And it was Hereford who came closest to adding to their tally as the half came to a close with Josh Gowling's header saved by Budtz.

The second half, however, saw a complete change of fortunes and Hartlepool were back in the clash just three minutes into the second period.

Matt Robson, who had seen a shot flash inches wide just seconds before, delivered a cross which Beckwith headed into his own net under heavy pressure.

After that, it was Hereford goalkeeper Craig Samson who had most to do, saving well on a number of occasions as Pool pressed forward in search of a win.

Kyle, twice, and Gary Liddle were both foiled by good stops from the Hereford keeper as the Bulls held on for a point.
