Match Report

Chesterfield staged another impressive fight back to end Hartlepool's good run at Saltergate and chalk up a hat-trick of league wins.

Their third straight victory was completed following a second-half revival sparked by a superb goal from striker Colin Larkin.

Hartlepool were heading for their fifth win in seven games at Chesterfield until Larkin smashed an unstoppable shot in off the right-hand post and Derek Niven and Paul Hall also hit quality strikes to complete a memorable day for the home side.

Hartlepool had players missing through injury, but after surviving a rocky start in which Kevan Hurst rattled the bar after 10 seconds, went in front through a quality goal by Michael Proctor.

An excellent passing move saw Lee Bullock wrong foot the home defence with a clever reverse pass and Thomas Butler crossed from the left for Proctor to glance in a header.

Hartlepool never looked secure at the back but still had the game under control until Larkin picked up the ball and from 25 yards sent it fizzing past Dimitrios Konstantopoulos to turn the match.

Perhaps it might have been different if Proctor had not made a complete hash of an open goal on the hour when he sliced wide from only eight yards and that was to prove very costly.

The finishing from Chesterfield from then on was top quality with Niven firing in from 25 yards after the visitors had only half cleared a cross.

Hall wrapped up the points with another spectacular strike in the 79th minute although the Hartlepool defence stood and watched him without trying to close him down.

Larkin's afternoon was slightly soured when he was booked for diving but it was another impressive come back by Chesterfield who last week won at Walsall after going two goals down.
