Julian Joachim was the Boston hero as he snatched a last-gasp equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw against table topping Grimsby at York Street. The former Premiership front man denied the Mariners their fifth straight away League Two win and salvaged a thoroughly merited point for Boston who played nearly 80 minutes with only ten men. The game got off to a dramatic start when, in the 11th minute, Michael Reddy burst clear from the half way line only to be brought down inside the area by last man defender Austin McCann. He was red carded for the offence and Jean-Paul Kalala Kamudimba coolly converted from the spot. Boston had to reshuffle with Danny Thomas replacing Jason Lee in a revised 3-4-2 formation. And despite their numerical disadvantage Boston showed commendable spirit in trying to play attacking football with Noel Whelan and Ian Ross seeing efforts go close. Grimsby offered little attacking force as the half progressed, however, they went close to doubling their tally from a 42nd corner by Tom Newey which saw Gary Cohen head wide when unmarked at the far post. Just before the break Boston set Joachim free but his shot on the run was blocked by Justin Whittle. Boston almost levelled in their first raid of the second half when Brad Maylett cut inside and saw his deflected shot pushed wide by Steve Mildenhall. More home pressure then yielded a 56th minute 20-yard free-kick with Mildenhall again excelling to palm over Ian Ross' drive. The 67th minute brought Boston another chance this time Ben Futcher rising high to head wide from a Ross free-kick. The Mariners' first genuine threat at goal after the interval didn't arrive until the 77th minute and saw Martin Gritton burst clear only to have his 18-yard pile-driver beaten away by Nathan Abbey. Boston threw on striker Lawrie Dudfield in a late effort to salvage a point but Grimsby attacked again and substitute Andy Parkinson unluckily saw a shot from distance rattle off the home bar. Boston got the point they deserved when on 90 minutes Joachim swivelled brilliantly to fire in from an acute angle after Paul Ellender had nodded down a Ross free-kick.
