Match Preview

Worries a plenty for Hess Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has a plethora of selection concerns ahead of Stockport's visit to Priestfield. Danny Spiller is ruled out for the next fortnight with an Achilles injury, while Mark Bentley is suspended following his red card last weekend. Striker Adebayo Akinfenwa is rated at 50/50 with a groin problem and Josh Gowling is doubtful after being sent home from training with flu-like symptoms on Thursday. Curtis Weston has been struggling with a thigh injury but could play through the pain barrier, Dennis Oli has returned to training following a hamstring injury and will be monitored ahead of the game. Despite the lengthy injury list, which also contains long-term absentees Garry Richards, Simon King, Andy Barcham and Danny Jackman, Hessenthaler is set to make changes to his side following last week's shambolic 7-4 defeat at Accrington. John Nutter and Mark McCammon are two of the players that could come back in to come back into the side. Stockport boss Paul Simpson could hand a debut to new signing Anthony Pulis. The Southampton midfielder, 26, has joined County on a one-month loan deal and will go straight into the squad to face the Gills. His arrival offsets the departure of Preston midfielder Jamie Proctor following the completion of his two-month loan spell. Simpson has no major injury worries but will again be without striker Barry Conlon, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury. Stockport tasted defeat for the first time in six games after last weekend's 2-1 defeat at Burton and Simpson is targeting an immediate response. He said: "We've got to do things properly and lift ourselves after the defeat at Burton."

Match Report

Gills bounce back Gillingham went some way to putting last weekend's embarrassment of shipping in seven goals behind them as goals from Cody MacDonald and Jack Payne fired them to a 2-1 victory over Stockport. The Priestfield faithful had not long taken their seats before they were up and cheering as MacDonald fired the Gills into the lead after just three minutes, heading home Chris Palmer's corner off Matt Glennon's right-hand post. And the home side dominated the first half and deservedly grabbed a second as Payne pounced from another Palmer corner for his first league goal. The second half became disjointed as the home side were happy to keep their two-goal lead while Stockport pressed but could not find a telling opening and rarely troubled Alan Julian. But Andy Hessenthaler saw his side concede with just 10 minutes to go as Anthony Pulis fired past Julian but Gillingham held on for the win and should have wrapped the game up when substitute Dennis Oli rounded Glennon but could not find the finish.
