Match Preview

Double boost for Gills Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler will have defender Matt Lawrence and winger Andy Barcham available for the home match against Bury. Lawrence missed Saturday`s 1-1 draw at Crewe with a groin problem he sustained in the previous game against Rotherham but he is fit to return, as is Barcham who has endured a stop-start season after struggling with a niggling ankle injury with his last appearance coming against Torquay on January 22. Defender Tony Sinclair is also likely to be in the squad despite picking up an ankle problem in a practice match against a Millwall XI on Tuesday. However, centre-backs Josh Gowling and Simon King will miss out but could be back for next weekend`s game with Shrewsbury. Gowling has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury against Stevenage on February 1, while King made his first start against Crewe after 21 months out with ankle trouble but lasted only 17 minutes before breaking down with a hamstring problem. Forward Dennis Oli will be used as an impact substitute again. Oli has not started a game since November due to a troublesome hamstring and Hessenthaler is determined to use him sparingly until the injury fully clears up. Midfielders Joe Martin (cheekbone) and Chris Palmer (knee) remain sidelined, as does Connor Essam (ankle). Bury boss Alan Knill has no fresh injury or suspension concerns ahead of the clash. On-loan Manchester United striker Nicky Ajose, who missed Tuesday`s 1-1 draw with Chesterfield, will remain sidelined for a further six weeks with a knee injury. But the Shakers have no other worries as they seek to further enhance their promotion credentials following the stalemate with the Spireites. Former Shakers striker Danny Carlton, who had his contract cancelled by mutual consent last month, has signed for Morecambe until the end of the season. Yet Knill has one of the most lethal marksmen in the league at his disposal in Ryan Lowe, who scored his 20th goal of the season against Chesterfield on Tuesday. Knill said: "He has got 20 goals now and that is quality."

Match Report

Lowe maintains hot streak Bury striker Ryan Lowe scored for the sixth game running to earn a valuable 1-1 draw against fellow promotion chasers Gillingham. The Gills, who extended their unbeaten run to six matches, took the lead through Curtis Weston's 25th minute effort but were pegged back by Lowe's 21st goal of the season. Lenell John-Lewis was the first to go close for the visitors when he blazed over from ten yards while Danny Jackman's 20th-minute free-kick whistled just wide for the hosts. But Gillingham did capitalise on a good spell of pressure when Weston cut in from the left and fired low past Cameron Belford from 20 yards. They should have been two up moments later when leading scorer Cody McDonald outmuscled Tom Lees but could only shoot wide from close range. On 68 minutes Belford did well to deny Gillingham substitute Andy Barcham when through on goal and that save would prove crucial. Just three minutes later John-Lewis played in Lowe to clinically finish past Alan Julian and Bury held as McDonald missed a late chance for a Gills winner.
