Trio doubtful for Gills Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has doubts over midfield duo Curtis Weston and Andy Barcham as well as defender Garry Richards for his side's clash with Bradford at Priestfield. Weston is struggling with a groin injury while Barcham sustained an ankle knock playing for the reserves in their midweek draw with Charlton. Richards, meanwhile, has an ankle problem, but while all three players missed training on Thursday, they are expected to be fit to face the Bantams. Hessenthaler has hinted at changes after he complained of a lack of width in the 1-1 draw against Accrington on Tuesday which could mean recalls for midfield trio Mark Bentley, Luke Rooney and Joe Martin as well as forward Dennis Oli. Danny Spiller remains sidelined with a fractured finger but could be back within two weeks and fellow midfielder Chris Palmer is also closing in on a return from the knee injury that has sidelined him since November. Bradford's new manager Peter Jackson could make changes for his first game in charge. Jackson, who began his playing career with the Bantams, was installed as Peter Taylor's successor on a week-to-week basis last weekend. He is boosted by having no new injury or suspension problems, although skipper Simon Ramsden remains sidelined with a thigh strain and midfielder Tommy Doherty is still recovering from an ankle operation. Jackson saw a strong reserve team trounce Port Vale in midweek and strikers Gareth Evans, Scott Dobie and Jake Speight all staked their claims for a return to the starting line-up. Evans scored twice and Speight was also on target, along with Leon Osborne, while Jon Worthington, skipper at Huddersfield when Jackson was at the helm, is pushing for a recall. Striker James Hanson (groin) and midfielder David Syers (hamstring) suffered no reaction after returning to the side last week following injury.

Bayo brings Gills win Gillingham ended a run of four consecutive draws as goals from Adebayo Akinfenwa and Curtis Weston ensured Peter Jackson's Bradford reign started with a 2-0 defeat. Akinfenwa and Weston struck either side of the break to extend the Gills' unbeaten run to nine games and give Andy Hessenthaler's men a desperately needed three points in their promotion push. Bradford squandered two early chances through Luke Oliver's header and Gareth Evans' shot, neither of which was on target. Kevin Ellison also brought a fabulous save out of goalkeeper Alan Julian but instead it was Gillingham who took the lead two minutes before the break as Weston crossed for Akinfenwa to head home his ninth of the season. Gillingham doubled their lead just seconds after half-time when Weston fired home from 25 yards. Julian was again called on to preserve Gillingham's advantage and keep out Bradford substitute Tom Adeyemi's long-range effort while James Hanson missed the target for the visitors with a close-range header.
