FENERBAHCE 2 - 1 CHELSEA: A victory tonight that won't be forgotten this side of Istanbul leaves Chelsea, by far the best side for long periods, with pently to do in the second leg next week

Still no real efforts by Chelsea at the end here and the Turkish side are crusing to a famous win

An effort by Anelka goes well wide after a deep cross had found the Frenchman at the back post, but he couldn't control the header

A good run by Anelka down the right but his low cross was knocked down and cleared by the home side

Chelsea have lost the drive and invention which they've had for so much of this match and a goal really doesn't look like coming for the English side

Chelsea need a response now and Drogba looked to provide it with a curling effort from outside the box but it again goes wide

FENERBAHCE 2 - 1 CHELSEA: Stunning goal from DEIVID! The Brazilian was given too much space, 25 yards out from the Chelsea goal and he looked up and fired a swerving, right-footed shot into the top left corner of the Chelsea net

Both sides are striving for a win now, making for an excellent finish here in Istanbul

John Obi Mikel is on for the hard-working Lampard

Excellent run and cross by Kazim-Richards but Deivid's attemped volley is miss-hit and Chelsea clear

That goal seems to have sparked the home side into life as Chelsea are once again forced onto the back foot, Ballack conceding a free-kick just inside the Chelsea half

Kezman goes off, Semih Senturk replacing him

The Chelsea bench is warming up now, as the away side look to regain the lead here

A foul by Edu on Drogba gives Chelsea a shooting chance on the edge of the Fenerbahce box, but Drogba's effort is far too high

Chelsea's missed chances will haunt them now and Ballack just missed another, his hard shot from the edge of the area getting parried away by Demirel

FENERBAHCE 1 - 1 CHELSEA: COLIN KAZIM-RICHARDS for the Turkish side! The substitute found himself onside and through on goal after a long ball over the Chelsea defence, and he made no mistake with a vicious shot to tie this game up

More pressure down the Chelsea left with Lampard and Ashley Cole but Fenerbahce sweep up and break, giving Alex a chance to shoot from 20 yards but his low effort was straight at Cudicini

The good early signs from Fenerbahce have all but disappeared now and Chelsea are dominating fully again

Another curling effort from Drogba from the edge of the penalty area goes over and, in retrospect, a low pass to Lampard was the better option there

A good effort from Ballack, 25 yards out, forces another excellent save from Demirel, whose parry almost fell kindly for Malouda but the Frenchman couldn't quite catch up to the ball

Carvalho's back-post header at the other end is sent well over and centre-back Edu feels the force of his follow-through

Cudicini forced into a save by Kezman following Alex's corner, but the former Chelsea and PSV forward's overhead kick was weak and straight at the Italian

Colin Kazim-Richards, the former Brighton player, has come on to replace Ugur Boral

Best chance of the game for Fenerbahce as Claudio Maldonado crossed well from the right and found the head of Alex, but his effort sailed past the far post

An extraordinary run by Carvalho led the Portuguese into the Fenerbahce box but he had one touch too many and Demirel collected the ball

No obvious change in tactic by the home side yet, although they are at least showing more spirit, closing down the Chelsea players quickly

Excellent save from Demirel as Drogba had found himself one-on-one with the keeper, 35 yards out from goal, but Demirel showed good pace to close down and block the striker's shot

The increase in possession from Fenerbahce hasn't led to the creation of too many chances and they continue to struggle for a lack of urgency

The home side have shown signs of life in the last few minutes and Chelsea might regret not making the most of that 15 minute spell of dominance

A Lampard corner is won by Fenerbahce and their break led to an effort by Wederson but his tame, left-footed shot goes over

A powerful header from Drogba goes wide of Demirel's left-hand post but Chelsea are finding so much space at the moment a second goal is only a matter of time

Finally Fenerbahce get a shot off, although Marco Mehmet Aurelio's effort from 20 yards was scuffed well wide of the goal

More pace and power from Drogba takes him towards the Fenerbahce goal but his cross to Joe Cole in the penalty box was overhit and the ball goes out for a throw

Michael Essien is playing an attacking game at right-back and he hits an excellent 25-yard shot which clips the top of the crossbar

Chelsea continue to press, using the strength and aerial ability of Didier Drogba to good effect, although we are yet to see a shot from either side

That has stunned the home side and their fans, and probably the Chelsea team too as they hadn't looked dangerous up to that point

This vocal home crowd continue to boo Chelsea when the away side have the ball, which is becoming a more regular feature now. Still no end product though as a Joe Cole cross is easily caught by Volkan Demirel

Some good build-up play by the English side almost gave Ballack a chance but he received the ball with his back to goal and was tackled before he could get a shot off

Not much from Chelsea early on, only a couple of spells of possession inside the Fenerbahce half. Still, a draw would be acceptable in this first leg

Luiz da Silva Wederson, the Fenerbahce full-back, almost found himself through on Carlo Cudicini but the Italian came out well and the flag was up for offside anyway

Fenerbahce regain control and continue to pass the ball around easily in these early stages

A dangerous ball curled in by Rodrigo da Costa Alex and Ballack does well to head clear before Chelsea break through Joe Cole and Florent Malouda

Unbeaten in two and a half years at home in Europe, entering the game on a four match winning streak and on course to retain the Turkish league title - Fenerbahce can't be taken lightly

Mateja Kezman and Nicolas Anelka are both facing former clubs, assuming the latter comes off the bench to play, giving added spice to a clash that'll be played in front of an always passionate Istanbul crowd

Roberto Carlos starts on the bench today for the home side as the Brazilian is recovering from a shin problem. Frank Lampard has been injured for over a week but has been deemed fit enough to start.

A couple of injury and suspension issues for each side, with Fenerbahce's Gokhan Gonul suspended and four of the Turkish side's players one yellow card away from missing the second leg

Fenerbahce and Chelsea will be meeting for the first time tonight and kick off is less than 30 minutes away. It's the first of a two legged quarter-final, the second leg being in London next Tuesday
