Match Report

Exeter City's unbeaten run was stretched to five games with a creditable point against leaders Wycombe Wanderers.

Emmanuel Panther's 57th minute bizarre finish cancelled out Matt Harrold's fifth minute penalty for the hosts.

The Grecians continue to impress near the top end of League Two and will be well placed going into the New Year.

They had more shots on and off target than their higher ranked hosts, who will certainly count this as two points lost rather than one gained.

Striker Harrold had the chance to put the Chairboys in front after he had been brought down in the box by Daniel Seaborne. He did so with ease.

Harrold and Angelo Balanta both had shots for the hosts before the 20 minute mark, but Ryan Harley rattled the post for Exeter on 35 minutes.

Grecians' striker Adam Stansfield saw a long-range effort fly over five minutes into the second half, but he was substituted shortly after.

And the visitors got their reward for their endeavour three minutes before the hour when Panther got in the way of Leon Johnson's clearance, deflecting it past Scott Shearer.

Harley continued to pose problems for the home defence, with his set-piece delivery being impressive.

Gary Holt could have given the hosts all three points in the closing stages, but his effort was saved by Paul Jones.

Balanta also had a corner that seemed to cross the line, but the goal was not given.

Despite this setback, Wycombe still enjoy a seven-point lead at the top. Exeter consolidate their position in the play-off places, but have a game in hand and are within striking distance of the top three.
