Match Preview

Noble not certain to face Tranmere David Noble is a doubt for Exeter's npower League One clash with Tranmere. The midfielder failed a fitness test on Wednesday after suffering a dead leg, but he will be assessed again ahead of kick-off at St James' Park. Should Noble not be available to manager Paul Tisdale, the door could be open for new loan signing Chris Hackett to make his Grecians debut after arriving from Millwall on Thursday. On-loan forward Jake Taylor is likely to return, having been ineligible for the midweek FA Cup first-round replay defeat at Walsall, but Daniel Nardiello and Guillem Bauza are both struggling with knocks. Tisdale may rest a handful of the players who played all 120 minutes against the Saddlers on Wednesday. Paul Rachubka is set to make his Tranmere debut. The 30-year-old Leeds goalkeeper has moved to Prenton Park on a one-month loan deal after regular number one Owain Fon Williams broke his hand in training. Rovers will be without Zoumana Bakayogo and Enoch Showunmi for the trip. Defender Bakayogo suffered a knock to his knee while playing for Rovers' reserves on Tuesday night, while striker Showunmi remains absent with the ankle injury that sidelined him for last weekend's home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday. Jose Baxter is available to start in attack after extending his loan from Everton into a third month. Robbie Weir is suspended having picked up five yellow cards, leaving room in the midfield for Joss Labadie to state his case on the back of some impressive reserve-team performances.

Match Report

Great Scot lifts Grecians Scot Bennett's first goal in professional football and Danny Coles' first for the club helped injury-ravaged Exeter to an impressive 3-0 win over Tranmere. Tranmere started well with Jose Baxter forcing Exeter goalkeeper Artur Krysiak into a good save on three minutes, but Exeter, without eight first-team players, opened the scoring just before half-time. Chris Hackett, who joined the club on loan from Millwall this week, and Steve Tully combined down the right. Tully's cross was not cleared and Bennett rammed home his first goal for the club from 12 yards. Richard Logan hit the bar for Exeter early in the second half, and the Grecians doubled their lead when Hackett's cross was turned in from close range by Coles after 66 minutes. Tranmere offered little in attack with Exeter defending superbly and Logan added a third 12 minutes from time when he ran in on goal and finished with aplomb.
