Match Preview

Grecians at full strength Manager Paul Tisdale has a fully-fit squad at his disposal as he prepares his Exeter side to face Scunthorpe in npower League One. Striker Guillem Bauza enjoyed his playing return from a hamstring problem in the Grecians' reserve-team clash with Bristol City on Wednesday and came through 45 minutes unscathed while Daniel Nardiello also completed a stint for the second string after a calf injury and showed no adverse reaction. Billy Jones is available for Tisdale as well, following his recovery from a broken toe and the Devon outfit have no injury or suspension worries for the first time this season. Exeter will be looking to bounce back from the 3-0 defeat at Leyton Orient last weekend which ended their six-match unbeaten league run. Scunthorpe skipper Cliff Byrne will not feature after suffering a recurrence of his long-term groin injury. Byrne made his first appearance in 11 months in the recent defeat at Notts County but was forced to miss out last week and could require another three weeks on the sidelines. Midfielder Oliver Norwood sits out the second game of his three-match ban, so Sam Togwell is expected to continue, while manager Alan Knill could be tempted to hand Jimmy Ryan his first start in three months. Ryan made his comeback from a cruciate knee ligament injury when he stepped off the bench in last week's home defeat to Carlisle and provides Knill with an extra midfield option. Manchester United teenager Sam Johnstone is likely to continue in goal after his loan spell was extended for another month this week, with Sam Slocombe on the bench. Midfielders Michael Collins (Achilles) and Damien Mozika (foot), goalkeeper Josh Lillis (knee) and striker Matt Godden (hip/hernia) remain long-term absentees.

Match Report

Stalemate at St James Exeter and Scunthorpe did little to help move themselves away from the League One relegation zone following a dour goalless draw at St James Park. The match marked Exeter manager Paul Tisdale's 2,000th day in charge of the Grecians, but they could not celebrate it with a win on a day those in attendance would probably be better served Christmas shopping. The first half was shaded by Exeter, who had the best two chances of the half. Chris Hackett twice cut in from the right flank, but on each occasion he was denied by Scunthorpe's on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. Scunthorpe's best effort came from Andy Barcham, but he was denied by Exeter's Polish goalkeeper Artur Krysiak. The Iron improved after the break and came close to winning the points when Krysiak saved Bobby Grant's long-range effort and the Exeter goalkeeper again came to his side's rescue to deny Shane Duffy with a brilliant fingertip save. Exeter created nothing of note until the final minute when Jake Taylor rattled the crossbar from 12 yards.
