Match Preview

Duffy doubtful for Grecians Richard Duffy is again Exeter boss Peter Tisdale's biggest injury worry ahead of the home clash with Hartlepool. The 25-year-old full-back lasted just 11 minutes of the 3-1 win over Charlton on February 19 before suffering an injury in an aerial clash which forced him to sit out the 2-2 draw with Carlisle in midweek. Liam Sercombe is expected to continue in Duffy's usual role following two impressive performances in his absence. James Dunne is also a doubt after suffering a bruised leg against the Cumbrians despite only playing 21 minutes as a second-half substitute. Daniel Nardiello, who has scored four goals in his last six appearances, three of which were as a substitute, is pushing for a recall after his 30-minute cameo in midweek. He could replace John Flynn as the Grecians attempt to extend their unbeaten run to four games. Hartlepool first-team coach Mick Wadsworth has injury doubts over James Brown and Paul Murray. Striker Brown was substituted at half-time during the goalless midweek draw with promotion hopefuls Southampton after taking a kick on the ankle and has not trained since. However, Wadsworth will be hoping he is fit to resume his blossoming partnership with Ryan Donaldson and the injury will be assessed before the squad set off for St James' Park. Midfielder Murray has a sore knee after playing three times in the last week and could miss out, but full-back Neil Austin may return to contention after missing the last five games with a calf problem. Utility man Ritchie Humphreys will break Watty Moore`s club record of 472 appearances if he appears against the Grecians.

Match Report

Monkhouse at the double for Pools Andy Monkhouse`s brace earned Hartlepool a 2-1 win at Exeter and condemned the hosts to their fourth straight defeat at St James' Park. Exeter were a pale shadow of the side who won at Charlton last week and drew at Carlisle on Tuesday. They were all over the place at the back and it was two defensive errors which led to Hartlepool taking a 2-0 half-time lead. The Grecians failed to deal with a long ball forward and Monkhouse lashed the ball past Ben Hamer from the edge of the box for the first goal. And Monkhouse added a second when Billy Jones' woeful attempt to play offside led to the Pools striker drilling the ball in off the far post to double the lead. Hartlepool had chances to put the game beyond the Grecians, but Exeter pulled a goal back after 59 minutes following some great work by Ryan Harley who crossed for Jamie Cureton to finish with a smart volley. Cureton came close to a late equaliser but his close-range header was well saved by Scott Flinders. Hartlepool`s Ritchie Humphreys appeared for the final eight minutes to break Watty Moore`s club record of 472 appearances.
