Match Report

Everton boss David Moyes said: "We didn't expect that defeat. We had a team that should have been good enough to beat Oldham, even though on paper it looked a weakened side from normal.

"We missed lots of chances but credit to them, they defended fantastically well.

"They scored an opportunistic goal and we are very disappointed but things like this happen."

Oldham manager John Sheridan added: "I didn't think we could win as Everton are a top side but I always hoped to get something out of the game.

"I told the boys to go out and enjoy themselves today and I think they did.

"Our work rate and defending to stop them scoring was immense and the young players that were brought into the side grew up today and I'm proud of them.

"I've told them all to go out and have a pint and enjoy the night as it may never happen for these players again."
