Newcastle get us underway on a glorious day here at Goodison park. Everton need just a point to guarantee a places in next seasons UEFA cup, Newcastle with little to play for except their place in the team next season.

Match Report

Everton require just one point from Sunday's visit of Newcastle United to secure their passage into next season's UEFA Cup.

The Toffees are three points clear of Aston Villa in fifth place so are firm favourites to wrap up the one spot available via the Premier League.

Last Sunday's 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal left David Moyes' side still unsure of their European fate, but the manager is confident of securing the point they need at the final time of asking this weekend.

"I am disappointed we didn't get a point we needed because we did enough to get it," he said. "Three points ahead with a game to go is a position I'm happy to be in though. I am confident the players can do it."

Moyes is likely to revert to a more usual 4-4-2 formation for the visit of the Magpies after dropping Yakubu and employing Andrew Johnson as a lone striker at the Emirates Stadium.

Key duo Tim Cahill (ankle) and Mikel Arteta (groin) will miss out through injury so Phil Neville, Lee Carsley, Steven Pienaar, Leon Osman and Manuel Fernandes will contest the four midfield spots available.

Newcastle United arrive at Goodison Park having seen their seven-game unbeaten run ended by a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Magpies gave a good account of themselves in an even first period at St James' Park, before being undone by two second-half strikes.

However, manager Kevin Keegan believes their improvement in the past few months bodes well for the future.

"The top four this year will be the top four next year. I want to tell the Newcastle fans that we want to get fifth. We will be trying to win the other league that's going on," he said.

"It will be a hell of an achievement from where we are now. And if we did end up getting fourth by playing well, then I would be delighted."

The Magpies though will be without a number of key players for the trip to Merseyside as Emre has been given permission to join up with the Turkey national side ahead of their Euro 2008 qualifiers, Shay Given is out with a groin problem and Joey Barton will be absent due to his bail conditions.

Mark Viduka has also been ruled out after limping out of the Chelsea game with an ankle problem which could see him sidelined for several months.
