Everton are enjoying the lion share of possession but just do not seem able to create anything clear-cut, although they have time on their hands at the moment.

The ball breaks inside the area for Dan Gosling but the offside flag goes up as he thumps a shot into the side-netting.

Some indecision in the Everton defence as Joleon Lescott has to boot the ball clear when it looked like Tim Howard would come out and gather but took too long about it.

To be fair Newcastle are enjoying plenty of possession here as they look to ensure Everton are not given time to try and break them down.

Good news on Victor Anichebe it seems he only suffered bruising after that tackle from Kevin Nolan in the first half.

Victor Anichebe is back on the field, although he is limping heavily, and is booed by the Newcastle fans. I'm sure they would not boo if they had the chance to see a repeat of the tackle Kevin Nolan put in on him.

There is going to be another five minutes at the end of the half which is not surprising given the number of injury problems.

There could be more injury problems as Victor Anichebe is struggling and after that tackle he is lucky not have a broken leg.

Shola Ameobi is given a stern talking to by the referee as he clatters Leighton Baines deep inside the Everton half but no card brandished to the big forward.

Ryan Taylor puts another free kick into the area from the right wing and the ball ends up in the net but Shola Ameobi clearly shoved Tim Howard.

Five minutes plus stoppages to go in the first half and not too many chances but Everton will feel they should be in front.

The game is opening up a little here but at the moment both defences are on top as Shola Ameobi's flick header flashes wide as he is put off well by Joseph Yobo.

Fortunately Jack Rodwell gets up and is able to continue here but we must be in for a lengthy bit of injury time at the end of this half.

David Moyes must have mown down a black cat as Jack Rodwell has gone down after a hefty tackle from Ryan Taylor, who is lucky to get away with that.
