Match Preview

Fifth-placed Hull City entertain an Everton side that has shown their best form away from home so far this season.

The Tigers have already won two Premier League games this term following their surprise promotion via the play-offs and bounced back superbly from their 5-0 mauling by Wigan Athletic to win 2-1 at troubled Newcastle United last time out.

Seven points from four games represents the best start made by a newly-promoted side to the Premier League since Portsmouth's encouraging opening five years ago.

Hull boss Phil Brown is unsurprised by his team's good start though, saying: "Maybe a few people within the club are surprised, I'm not sure, but I don't get that feeling from any of my backroom staff.

"I don't get that from the majority of the players but I don't honestly know, you'd have to ask each and every individual."

Brown will be unable to call on the services of Craig Fagan after the former Derby County striker had his leg broken by Newcastle's Danny Guthrie in the closing stages of the Tigers' win at St James' Park.

Fagan is unlikely to play again until December but there is hope that George Boateng could return to action this weekend after missing the last three league matches with a thigh strain.

Daniel Cousin will have to wait another week before making his debut for Brown's side as the 31-year-old striker serves the final game of his two-match ban following his red card in Rangers' 4-2 win at Celtic last month.

Everton have managed to lose both their home games so far, but won at West Brom and Stoke City on their travels so will have the chance to beat their third promoted side on Sunday.

The Goodison Park injury list finally shows some sign of improving with Tim Cahill returning from a six-month lay-off to score the winner at the Britannia Stadium in a 3-2 success last Sunday.

However, Lars Jacobsen will be sidelined for up to four months after dislocating his shoulder while on international duty.

Andy van der Meyde (hamstring), Steven Pienaar (toe), Louis Saha (calf) and Tony Hibbert (knee ligament) also remain in the treatment room.

Match Report

Hull City had to settle for a point at the KC Stadium after they were pegged back by Everton despite being two goals ahead.

A header from Michael Turner and a Phil Neville own goal saw the Tigers comfortably in front, but second-half strikes from Tim Cahill and Leon Osman drew the game level.

The home side came close to taking the lead early on as Peter Halmosi raced down the left and swung in a cross towards Bernard Mendy, but the Frenchman's header was well saved by Tim Howard.

Everton had a chance soon after as Neville played the ball into Osman, who found space in the box but he could only drag his shot wide from 12 yards.

Hull then took the lead on 18 minutes as Dean Marney swung in a right-footed corner onto the head of Turner, who made no mistake at the back post with a thumping finish.

Yakubu had a chance to level soon after but his half-volley from just inside the box was well turned away by keeper Boaz Myhill.

A foul by Neville on Halmosi midway through the half saw the Tigers awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box, but Marlon King's rifling effort sailed past the post.

Phil Brown's men found themselves 2-0 up early in the second half as another curling corner from Marney caused confusion in the Everton six-yard box resulting in Neville heading the ball towards his own goal past a flailing Howard and into the back of the net.

Substitute Louis Saha had a great chance to grab one back on 60 minutes as he raced 20 yards in on goal, but his effort from 12 yards was saved tremendously by Myhill.

The visitors did grab one back on 73 minutes as the linesman ruled Cahill's effort had gone over the line as he smashed the ball against the underside of the crossbar from 10 yards.

Everton took the game to Hull and drew level on 78 minutes as neat work from Saha allowed Yakubu to play in a low cross from the left to Osman, who fired the ball into the back of the net from eight yards.

Osman nearly found the winner in the dying minutes but his arrowed effort from 20 yards whistled just over the bar.
