Rooney is lucky to escape a caution for a clumsy tackle from behind on Clark on the halfway line

Steve Cherundolo is the first name in the book for man-handling Defoe to the ground 25 yards out - that booking was for a combination of fouls from the US defender
Defoe brings a long ball down superbly but lashes an ambitious 20-yard drive well over the crossbar when he would have been better served taking it on
Beckham squares it to Gerrard but his low shot spins away off the defensive wall and out of the danger zone
Defoe is hauled to the ground by Onyewu right on the edge of the box and Beckham will have a sight of goal from here
ENGLAND 1-0 USA: Beckham delivers a trademark flat free-kick from the right and TERRY diverts it into the bottom corner with a quality header from virtually on the penalty spot
Clark catches Brown with a clumsy tackle midway through the US half and gives away a needless free-kick
Defoe misses the best chance of the game as Rooney feeds Gerrard down the right and his low cross is poked wide from six yards by the little striker under pressure from Bocanegra
Owen Hargreaves darts in and wins two loose balls in midfield and that has upped the noise inside a quiet Wembley - this is hardly stirring stuff so far!
Defoe looks to be dragged to the ground by Oguchi Onyewu on the edge of the US box but the free-kick goes the other way to the bemusement of the home fans
