All the changes have taken the sting out of the encounter, but England have played some good football since the interval.

Rooney's had a very busy match but once again does not seem to be about to get on the scoresheet.

A good passing move ends with Crouch finding Gerrard who can't keep his rising shot on target.

Much better play now by England as Crouch almost adds a third after excellent play by Bentley, who's had a very good match.

Rooney goes close to adding a third as the game really opens up.

A fifth change by Switzerland with Hakan Yakin coming off and Xavier Margairaz replacing him.

ENGLAND 2-1 SWITZERLAND. The game's really livened up as Gerrard slips the ball to the onrushing WRIGHT-PHILLIPS who can't miss from five yards out.

England had made a great start to the second period but they're on their heels now.

ENGLAND 1-1 SWITZERLAND. What a strike by the substitute as, out of nothing, DERDIYOK whips a shot past the despairing dive of James.

England are playing with much more purpose now. Capello must have had a quiet word at the interval.

Bentley finds Rooney again and, seeing Benaglio off his line, tries to chip the keeper but gets just too much on it and the ball ends up on the roof of the net.

No changes by Capello at the interval. Maybe they'll be a rash of subs on the hour mark.

Rooney seems certain to score after being set up by Bentley but the ball goes just the wrong side of the goal.

England had upped the pace just before the goal. Hopefully they'll settle down and play some good stuff against limited opposition now.

Senderos gifts possession to Jenas in a dangerous position. The ball eventually finds its way to Joe Cole who forces Benaglio to make another smart stop.

Joe Cole gets a shot in on target but Benaglio dives to his left to make the save.

England keep the ball without getting anywhere until Gerrard takes control - and passes the ball to no-one in particular.

Whistles from the home crowd as Barry's simple pass to Ashley Cole is over-hit. It's very poor fare, once again, from England.

Jenas gets to the byline but delays his pull-back for Joe Cole and Benaglio is able to dive on the cross before the Chelsea man can get to it.

Switzerland have a free-kick in a handy position but Barnetta fires it over the bar.

It should be 1-0 to the Swiss as Senderos flicks the ball on to Mario Eggimann who heads wide.

So far there seems no discernable improvement in England's play. Whisper it quietly, but maybe this group of players isn't that good after all.

From Bentley's second corner, Rio Ferdinand heads powerfully over the crossbar.

Oh dear. Gerrard lofts a ridiculously ambitious 40-yard pass in the general direction of Rooney who can't get to it and the ball runs through to Benaglio.

An untroubled James easily claims the corner.

Switzerland are growing in confidence as they win their first corner. The Wembley crowd is very subdued.

Brown, who's made a dreadful start, gifts the ball to Barnetta who fires in a shot that's only narrowly wide of James' goal.

Jenas has been very quiet. I'd almost forgotten he was playing as Rooney finds the side-netting with an audacious flick.

Barnetta looks lively for the Swiss who have hardly had the ball in the opening 17 minutes.

Rooney tries to play Joe Cole in, but the pass is over-hit and the ball dribbles through to Benaglio.

Bentley has shown some good early touches but Brown looks very nervous.

That was better by England though. They're showing signs of finally settling down after making a very shaky start.

Gerrard and Joe Cole set Rooney free. The Manchester United star looks certain to score but Benaglio does well to narrow the angle before making a smart save.
