McClaren said afterwards: "We don't like losing football matches. This was always going to be a difficult game.

"We've lost the game, we just lacked that bit of quality in the final third. It's very difficult when you have to make changes and it's difficult to get cohesion.

"I was pleased with certain aspects of the performance."
