Match Report

England coach Eriksson was upbeat after seeing his side clinch victory, saying: "They were even better than I thought, a good side and technically very good.

"You must have patience against a team defending with nine men behind the ball. We had that and started the second half very well with two goals. I'm very happy."

Goalscorer Gerrard added: "We took our chances in the second half, the manager asked me to play just behind Michael and I enjoyed it.

"I thought we created a lot of problems for them and the victory could have been far more convincing. It was important that we were patient."
