Jack turns to under-17s Elgin manager Ross Jack has been forced to place some players from the club's under-17s side on standby for the visit of Montrose as injuries and illness have decimated his squad. David Niven and Zander Jack have both been ruled out through injury and Jamie Duff is unlikely to feature after being laid low by illness. Neil MacDonald is on honeymoon to deplete the numbers further, both Barry Wilson and Craig Frizzell are rated as doubtful and last week's match-winner at Annan, Mark Nicholson, is banned. Jack said: "This is a huge match for both sides as we will be desperate to move away from the foot of the table. "Both sides have improved from last season, but we simply have to start winning at home." Montrose player-manager Steven Tweed has included himself in the squad, but could be without six players. Tweed has recovered from back and groin injuries, but goalkeeper Sandy Wood is out with a broken finger and defender Hugh Davidson is also injured. Midfielders Chris Hegarty and Terry Masson, full back Fraser Milligan and Paul Watson, on loan from Forfar, are rated as doubtful. Tweed said: "Elgin will be confident after winning for the first time at Annan and I'm looking for our lads to put on a much better performance than we did against Albion Rovers."

Gunn helps fire Elgin to victory Craig Gunn lived up to his name when he fired one home to help Elgin beat Montrose 3-2. Gunn drilled the ball home from 12 yards after a Ross O'Donoghue lay-off to put the hosts ahead in the 52nd minute. Montrose had opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Ross McCord lobbed the ball home from 18 yards. But Elgin levelled in the 33rd minute when Barry Wilson found the top corner with his 25-yard free-kick. After Gunn had nudged Elgin ahead, they missed a great chance to extend their advantage from the penalty spot. Steven Tweed brought down Craig Frizzel in the box but Jake Inglis' penalty was saved by Scott Bennett. Jason Crooks made sure they were not punished for that miss when he added a third in the 73rd minute from 12 yards. Aaron Sinclair pulled a goal back for Montrose from six yards but they stay bottom.
