Match Preview

Cane unavailable as Shire seek to avoid another spanking Bottom side East Stirling will be without David Cane against Stranraer. Defender Cane is sidelined with a groin injury and misses out against the side which put six past Shire last time they met. Boss John Coughlin said: "We took a really heavy defeat down there and it would be good to see how far we have progressed since then. "We have had a couple of decent results recently and we have to look to take something from this game in a bid to catch the teams above us in the table. "We know that Stranraer are a really good side, especially going forward so our plan has to be to control them and see what we can to do to score." Stranraer's Chris Aitken is fit for the trip. Aitken came through his brief substitute appearance against Elgin City last week unscathed after nearly three months out with a broken foot, and he is included in a full-strength squad. Despite their 5-2 success over the Borough Briggs side, manager Keith Knox is looking for an improvement. "That game could have finished 5-5," he said. "We were really slack at the back in the first half but improved in the second, but I have asked the players to tighten up defensively for the full 90 minutes. "We may have beaten East Stirling 6-0 in our last meeting but this game will be different. "They have hit a bit of form just now so we need to play well to take all three points."

Match Report

Aitken rescues Stranraer A late Christopher Aitken penalty spared Stranraer's blushes as they drew 2-2 with rock-bottom East Stirling in the Third Division. The Shire stunned promotion-chasing Stranraer by going ahead after just three minutes. The goal was all about midfielder Scott Maxwell, who upon seeing his corner cleared, picked up the ball and curled a sublime effort into the far corner, to leave goalkeeper Ryan Marshall stranded. Stranraer midfielder Stephen Stirling equalised in the 33rd minute as he drilled an unstoppable 18-yard effort past Callum Antell. The second half was only 30 seconds old when East Stirling's Lewis Horner spiced the game up with a powerful strike into the top corner to restore the hosts' lead. Aitken had the last laugh, though, as he nervelessly converted from the spot in the 89th minute after Rhys Devlin had handled.
