Match Preview

Duo doubtful for Dunfermline Kevin Rutkiewicz and Liam Buchanan are doubts for Dunfermline's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Hearts at East End Park. Defender Rutkiewicz turned an ankle in training on Thursday and striker Buchanan injured his ribs, and both will be assessed while midfielder Paul Burns is still out with a knock. Manager Jim Jefferies on Thursday got the first glimpse of his new keeper, Bernardo Dominguez Fernandez, and the 32-year-old Spaniard, formerly of SD Huesca, could be added to the squad. Dunfermline have to start doing themselves favours in their bid to avoid relegation before they think about help from other clubs, according to assistant manager Gerry McCabe. Last week's 3-0 defeat at Dundee United, coupled with Hibernian's 3-2 win at Inverness, leaves the Pars trailing Hibs by six points with six games remaining, five of which come after the visit of Hearts. And McCabe is aware of the significance of a first win under new boss Jim Jefferies. "We know how big Saturday is," he said. "There is one more game before the break and it is time we did ourselves a favour and get a result. "Obviously our result wasn't great last week and the other result (Hibs) didn't go too well for us. But at the end of the day it is what we do. "If we go to the last five games and we are still in touch we might need a favour, but that will only count if we do ourselves a favour so we have to focus on what we are doing. "We need a result on Saturday and we know the importance of it." McCabe admits another sequence of results like last week would probably finish off the Fifers' hopes of staying up. "I would say it would be very, very difficult," he said. "If we were in a nine-point lead, I think we would be very confident of finishing the job and staying up. "I wouldn't like to be in that scenario so I hope that doesn't happen. "Obviously for Hibs and us, we don't know what we are going to get from other teams after the split. "Some are safe and could be in the comfort zone but it's massive for us and the good thing is we are playing teams in the bottom half and we are capable of getting results. "There are no Old Firm there, nor Dundee United, Hearts and Motherwell who are good sides, so we have every chance of beating teams around us. "But at the end of the day we have to approach it the right way and it is so important that we start to get wins under the belt." Striker Stephen Elliott is a doubt for Hearts. The Irishman is battling to recover from a hip injury which has kept him out the last three games. Winger David Templeton is making good progress from a groin injury and could be back for Hearts' William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic at Hampden next week.
