Match Preview

Rookie Ryan ready for Brechin Dumbarton have added rookie defender Ryan Finnie to the squad to face Brechin. The 17-year-old full-back has joined on a loan deal until the end of the season from Hamilton. Martin McNiff remains out with a foot problem and fellow midfielder Kevin Nicol will be absent due to a groin injury as the Sons look to climb back over their visitors in the table. Manager Alan Adamson said: "We scored a last-minute goal to defeat Arbroath in our last game on January 2 and we have been itching for a game ever since. "Brechin gave us a bit of a bloody nose when we played them in the Scottish Cup back in November and it would be good to make up for that." Brechin winger Derek Carcary misses out against his former club after he was injured in training on Thursday night. Manager Jim Weir has delayed naming his side as he has four other players facing fitness tests with the participation of Scott Buist, David McClune, Sandy Hodge and Jim Lister all in doubt. Despite going out of the Scottish Cup last week at the hands of SPL St Johnstone, Weir is looking for his men to carry on where they left off. He said: "We lost poor goals at the start of each half last week but the players deserve a lot of credit for the way they battled back. "If we start this one in the manner we finished at Perth we will do okay."

Match Report

Prunty puts Sons beyond Brechin Bryan Prunty's late strike handed Dumbarton a 1-0 victory which saw them leapfrog Brechin in the table. The striker pounced to ram home the rebound from Scott Agnew's saved penalty with just a minute left to play. Striker Paul McManus went close for the visitors inside the opening 10 minutes but his powerful right-footed effort struck a post. The Sons responded positively to give themselves a foothold in the game, with Agnew narrowly firing over from 25 yards. There was still time before the break for Ally Graham to hit the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the box. It looked to be heading for a draw until Bryan Hodge brought down Agnew in the box and, although Craig Nelson palmed away the midfielder's spot-kick, Prunty was on hand to rifle in the winner from 12 yards.
