Match Preview

Ayr thin on the ground Dumbarton boss Alan Adamson will include a trialist forward against Ayr. Adamson, who is without speedy striker Derek Carcary due to a groin problem, declined to reveal the identity of the player. He said: "He has SFL experience and we are keen to see what he can do in a game situation." Defender Ben Gordon is suspended but Adamson remains upbeat going into the match. He added: "Ayr are a good side sitting near the top of the league. It will be a hard game but our young side did well against Livingston last week and a similar performance to that one with some points picked up would be great." Ayr are down to only 15 fit players for the trip. Manager Brain Reid, who will be without Dean Keenan, Bobby Donnelly, Willie Easton and Alastair Woodburn, hopes to boost numbers by bringing a loan player into the squad. "We have built up a head of steam recently, winning six of our last seven games, and I do not want to let that go because of injuries. Hopefully we can get another body in to help us," said Reid. "Dumbarton will be looking to build up a decent home record under their new manager so we have to be prepared to work hard to get the three points."

Match Report

Sons survive late scare Dumbarton held on to secure a rare 3-2 win against 10-man Ayr. The Sons took the lead after 28 minutes when Jonathan Tiffoney was shown a straight red card for bringing Kieran Brannan down in the area and Alan Cook stepped up to smash home from the penalty spot. Patrick Walker doubled the lead after 54 minutes with a close-range finish, but Ayr got themselves back into the match 12 minutes later through Mark Roberts' header from Alan Trouten's cross. Ross Campbell turned home Jon McShane's cross after 84 minutes to restore the two-goal advantage for Dumbarton. The visitors piled forward and pulled a goal back in stoppage time when substitute Andy Rodgers smashed the ball home from Roberts' knock-down, but it was too little, too late.
