Match Preview

Nicoll pushing for starting berth Kevin Nicoll could return to Dumbarton's starting line-up against Albion. The midfielder returned from suspension as a substitute in Dumbarton's midweek 1-1 draw against Forfar and will be pushing for a start against Albion. Manager Alan Adamson, who has guided his side into third spot in Division Two, admitted he has a number of players with bumps and bruises following their encounter at Station Park. However, he expects to have a full squad to choose from against the last side to defeat his men. Adamson said: "We are now looking to consolidate our place in the play-off zone and also make up for a disappointing performance against the Rovers just before Christmas. "It is always a feisty affair between these sides as there are so many ex-players on both sides." Albion will be led by assistant manager Todd Lumsden as manager Paul Martin has been given time off to recover from a recent illness. Lumsden welcomes back goalkeeper Derek Gaston after injury to give him a full squad to choose from as the Coatbridge men look for their first win since they defeated the Sons 3-1 back in December. Martin's player/assistant said: "I have worked closely with Paul throughout my time at the club so there is unlikely to be many changes and we are approaching things on a business as usual basis. "We are looking to get the full three points on board to not only get us moving up the way again in the table but as a pick me up to the Gaffer."

Match Report

Sons extend unbeaten run Dumbarton kept up their unbeaten start to the year with a competent 1-0 victory over second-bottom Albion Rovers. Bryan Prunty registered his 11th goal of the season to keep Dumbarton firmly in the play-offs and stretch their unbeaten league run to a sixth game. Patrick Walker went close with a header after five minutes but it was relegation-threatened Albion who came closest to scoring before the break. Ten minutes before half-time an Anthony Stevenson corner caused panic in the Sons' box, and Jordan Halsman had an effort parried by Stephen Grindlay before Daniel McKay's follow-up was blocked by Alan Lithgow. The deadlock was broken 19 minutes into the second half as Prunty collected a Scott Agnew pass from the left and finished from 12 yards. Agnew, played in by Prunty, almost put Dumbarton further ahead but Chris Fahey tipped his shot around the post.
